Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran Conferred with France's Highest Civilian Award

  • Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran was honoured with the prestigious "Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur" (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna.
  • Chandrasekaran was honoured for his substantial role in developing and fostering commercial links between France and India. The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI), in collaboration with Business France, hosted the 5th edition of the Indo-French Business Awards (IFBA) and Grand Prix VIE, which witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including H.E. Mr Édouard Philippe, former Prime Minister of France and Mayor of Le Havre.
  • Natarajan Chandrasekaran, popularly known as Chandra in corporate circles, was appointed as the Chairman of Tata Sons in 2017. Last year (2022), he received a five-year extension in his role. Chandra began his journey with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 1987 as a graduate trainee after graduating from Trichy's Regional Engineering College. Over the course of his more than two-decade-long tenure at TCS, he steadily climbed the ranks and became the CEO in 2009.

'Gauri' Gets 'Best Long Documentary Award' at South Asian Film Festival

  • The documentary "Gauri", directed by Kavitha Lankesh, received the "Best Long Documentary Award" at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal 2023. The film is about journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, who was assassinated in 2017, and the current political crisis in India.
  • The award citation describes the film as a courageous and uncompromising examination of the events surrounding Gauri Lankesh's murder, and praises Kavitha Lankesh's energetic direction and narration.
  • The documentary was commissioned by Free Press Unlimited, Amsterdam, an organization that upholds Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which advocates for freedom of expression and access to information.
  • The documentary "All That Breathes", which was nominated for an Oscar, was also in competition and received the runner-up prize.

Ben Whishaw Wins Best Leading Actor at BAFTA TV 2023

  • BAFTA Television Awards 2023, known as the UK's biggest night in TV, took place at London's Royal Festival Hall. The event celebrated the finest offerings of British television.
  • The hosting duties were assigned to comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan.
  • Ben Whishaw won the leading actor award and Kate Winslet won the leading actress award.

National Technology Awards 2023

  • Telangana's Technology Hub, popularly known as T-Hub Foundation, won the 2023 National Technology Award in the Technology Business Incubation category.
  • The awards were presented by the Union government's Department of Science and Technology at the closing day of the celebrations marking this year's National Technology Week.
  • T-Hub, said to be the world's largest innovation campus, is a start-up ecosystem facilitating collaboration between start-ups, venture capital firms, corporates, governments, and academia.
  • The National Technology Awards, organised by the Technology Development Board (TDB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, aims to acknowledge and reward Indian companies that have successfully commercialised indigenous innovative technologies. These awards, presented under five distinct categories, Main, MSME, Start-up, Tran Translational Research and Technology Business Incubator, provide a platform for the recognition of Indian industries and their technology providers who contribute to the vision of 'Aatma Nirbhar Bharat' by fostering innovation and bringing new ideas to the market.

Musharraf Ali Farooqi Wins the Inaugural Armory Square Prize for Translation

  • Author and translator Musharraf Ali Farooqi, who translated Siddique Alam's The Kettledrum and Other Stories from Urdu to English, won the inaugural edition of the Armory Square Prize for South Asian Literature in Translation.
  • The titular story of the collection is about an Adivasi woman who cohabitates with her dead husband, and thematically explores tribal traditions in the 21st century.

Arinze Ifeakandu Wins Dylan Thomas Prize for 'Kaleidoscopic Reflection of Queer Life in Nigeria'

  • Writer Arinze Ifeakandu won the £20,000 Swansea University Dylan Thomas prize for a "Kaleidoscopic Reflection of Queer Life and Love in Nigeria".
  • The prize, which recognises literary works by authors aged 39 or under, is one of the most prestigious awards for young writers.
  • The other shortlisted titles were Limberlost by Robbie Arnott, Seven Steeples by Sara Baume, I'm a Fan by Sheena Patel, Send Nudes by Saba Sams and Bless the Daughter Raised By a Voice in Her Head by Warsan Shire.
  • The prize was launched in 2006 in honour of esteemed Welsh poet Dylan Thomas to celebrate young writers of poetry, novels, short stories and drama in the English language. This November will mark the 70th anniversary of Thomas's death.

ASI Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award to Jayant Narlikar

  • Prof Jayant V. Narlikar, eminent astronomer and founder director of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in Pune, was presented the first Govind Swarup Lifetime Achievement Award by the Astronomical Society of India (ASI).
  • The ASI had instituted the award in 2022, as it celebrated its golden jubilee, to recognise eminent Indian astronomers for their contributions in the field of astronomy and astrophysics.
