President Gives Away Awards to 21 Winners on National Science Day Celebrations

  • The President, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, has emphasised on enhancing quality and relevance of our scientific enterprise. He said that our science must work for our people by contributing to their development and well-being. The President announced three key initiatives for gender advancement and equality in academic and research institutions on the occasion of National Science Day in a function held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. This year the theme for National Science Day is "Women in Science".
  • Vigyan Jyoti is an initiative that will create a level-playing field for the meritorious girls in high school to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in their higher education. The Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI) will develop a comprehensive Charter and a framework for assessing the Gender Equality in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). An online portal for science and technology resources for women will provide E-resources related to all women-specific government schemes, scholarships, fellowships, career counseling with details of subject area experts from various disciplines in science and technology, President Kovind highlighted.

Sahitya Akademi's Translation Prize 2019 Awarded to English Translation of 'Kusumabale'

  • Sahitya Akademi's Translation Prize for 2019 in the category of translation into English was awarded in 2020 to Kannada novel Kusumabale by Devanur Mahadeva, translated into English by Susan Daniel.
  • Chandrashekar Kambar, President of Sahitya Akademi, announced a total of 23 awards in various Indian languages.
  • The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a copper plaque.
  • Kusumbale was published in 1998, is a classic novel in Kannada Literature, written in a language typically spoken in Chamarajnagar district in Southern Karnataka, it combines prose, poetry, mythology of Dalit life.

Travellers' Choice Destination Awards 2020

  • Kochi topped the 2020 Travellers' Choice Destination awards as a 'trending' location announced by Tripadvisor, the world's largest travel site.

Jiya Creates World Record in Open Water Swimming

  • Ms. Jiya was awarded a certificate and trophy for her record-breaking achievement by creating a world record by becoming the fastest special girl to swim 14 km in open water. She swam from Elephanta Island to Gateway of India, a distance of 14 km in 3 hours 27 minutes and 30 seconds (03:27:30). She was felicitated by Mr. Abhay Dadhe, Associate Vice President of Swimming Federation of India.
  • The solo swimming event was conducted under the supervision of the Swimming Association of Maharashtra, an authorized body of the Swimming Federation of India.
  • Jiya was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Delay in Speech when she was 2 years old. The water therapy developed a passion for swimming in her. Her achievement was qualified to be registered in Asia Book, India Book of Records, and Limca Book of Records for the youngest and first special girl in the world.

Adline Castelino Wins LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2020 Title

  • Adline Castelino from Mangalore, Karnataka won LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2020 title and was crowned by Vartika Singh, the winner of the previous edition, at an event held in YRF (Yash Raj Films) Studios, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • Adline Castelino will be representing India at Miss Universe pageant 2020.
  • LIVA Miss Diva Supranational 2020: Aavriti Choudhary of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh (MP) crowned as LIVA Miss Diva Supranational 2020 and was crowned by her predecessor Shefali Sood.
  • Aavriti will represent India at Miss Supranational 2020.
  • Neha Jaiswal of Pune, Maharashtra was declared as LIVA Miss Diva 2020, runner-up.
  • The participants underwent training and grooming under the mentorship and guidance of Lara Dutta, Bollywood actor & former Miss Universe.
  • The judges panel included Lara Dutta, Anntonia Porsild, Asha Bhat, designers Shivan Bhatiya, Narresh Kukreja, Nikhil Mehra and actors Yami Gautam, Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor.

HRD Minister Presents Chhatra Vishwakarma Awards

  • Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal awarded 23 student teams with Chhatra Vishwakarma Awards for their innovations.
  • The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has been organising Vishwakarma Awards since the year 2017.
  • "The projects created by students from different teams solve the problem of the common man.
  • The awards were instituted by the AICTE in 2017 for promoting innovative spirit and scientific temperament for holistic development of society through the stakeholders of its approved institutes.
  • Twenty-three teams were selected by a jury for award under 8 different sub-categories. Appreciation certificates and cash prices (Rs. 51,000, Rs. 31,000 and Rs. 21,000) were awarded to the top three teams in each sub-category.
