Indian Army's Captain Geetika Koul Becomes First Woman medical Officer to be Deployed at Siachen

Captain Geetika Koul became the first woman medical officer in the Indian Army to be deployed at Siachen, the world's highest battlefield, the Fire and Fury Corps said.
This achievement follows her successful completion of rigorous induction training at the esteemed Siachen Battle School, which includes high-altitude acclimatisation, survival techniques, and specialised medical procedures.
Siachen, located in the northern Himalayas, poses challenges due to its strategic importance, harsh climate, and demanding terrain.

Indian Army Hosts 'Inno Yodha 2023' for Innovation and Modernisation

The Indian Army hosted the 'Inno Yodha 2023' Idea & Innovation Competition and Seminar, at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, reflecting its commitment to modernisation and technological advancement through in-house innovations. Attended by serving personnel, along with notable figures from academia and the defence industry, the event aimed to showcase technological innovations developed within the organisation.
General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff, commended the innovators for their creativity and ingenuity, encouraged the 'Thinking Warriors' to continue devising practical and innovative solutions for the nation and the Indian Army.

Centre Sets up Three Counter-insurgency and Anti-terrorist Schools in Odisha

The government set up three counter-insurgency and anti-terrorist schools in Odisha for training police personnel.
To strengthen the training inputs in the states affected by insurgency and terrorism, during the 11th Plan period, a scheme was approved for the establishment of 20 Counter Insurgency and Anti Terrorist Schools (CIATSs) four each in the states of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha at the cost of Rs. 52.40 crore. In these Schools, 75,000 police personnel were likely to get trained for combating terrorism and naxalism.

Major Reshuffle in Navy Top Brass, Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi to be New Vice Chief

A major reshuffle took place in the Indian Navy top brass as a series of new appointments were made. Western Naval Commander Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi was named as the new Vice Chief of the force.
The Vice Chief of Naval Staff is responsible for the modernisation of the force.
Vice Admiral Tripathi replaced Vice Admiral S. J. Singh who was moved to command the Western Navy headquartered in Mumbai.
Vice Admiral Srinivas was moved to the Southern Naval Command as the new chief as the incumbent Vice Admiral Admiral Hampiholi is retiring at the end of this month (December 2023).

GRSE Delivers India's Largest-ever Survey Vessel to Navy

Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd. delivered the largest-ever survey vessel to be built in the country 'INS Sandhayak' to the Indian Navy.
INS Sandhayak, the first in a series of four survey vessels being made by GRSE for the navy, was launched on December 5, 2021, and was undergoing fitting out and trials thereafter.
INS Sandhayak is the reincarnation of another ship by the same name, which was also a survey vessel. That ship had been commissioned into the navy in 1981 and decommissioned in 2021.

Cochin Shipyard and Adani Group Sign MoU for Building Green Tugs

State-run Cochin Shipyard Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding with Adani Group for constructing green tugs after delivering the first of the two tugs ordered by Ocean Sparkle Ltd, now owned by Adani Harbour Services Ltd.
This is the first tug to be built in India under the Approved Standard Tug Design Specifications (ASTDS) issued by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) for promoting the shipbuilding industry under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
