Growing Space Tourism Worsening Climate Damage
According to a study, the race for space tourism by Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin and SpaceX with several rocket launches is causing a bad effect on climate and increasingly contributing to global warming.
Researchers from the University of Cambridge and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) showed that black carbon (soot) particles emitted by rockets are almost 500 times more efficient at holding heat in the atmosphere than all other sources of soot combined (surface and aircraft) – resulting in an enhanced climate effect.
While the study revealed that the current loss of total ozone due to rockets is small, current growth trends around space tourism indicate potential for future depletion of the upper stratospheric ozone layer in the Arctic in spring.

Delhi Airport Becomes India's First to Run Entirely on Hydro and Solar Energy
GMR Group-run Delhi Airport became the first airport in the country to run entirely on hydro and solar power in a major step toward achieving the ambitious goal of becoming a Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport by 2030. For this, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR Infrastructure Limited-led consortium, which manages and operates the Delhi Airport, signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with a Himachal Pradesh-based hydropower producing company for the supply of hydroelectricity for the airport until 2036.
DIAL said that its switching over to renewable sources for its energy needs will help it reduce indirectly 200,000 tons of carbon emissions. Approximately 6 per cent of the airport's electricity requirement is met from the onsite solar power plants while as much as 94 per cent of the total demand is now being met through renewable energy use from the hydropower plant.
