Film Bazaar Concludes at IFFI in Goa

  • The 5-day long Film Bazaar concluded at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa with Bangladesh feature film 'Agantuk' was named the winner of the Prasad DI Award. The Biplob Sarkar-directed movie was screened in the Viewing Room section, which presents Indian and South Asian films looking for film festivals, world sales, distribution partners and also finishing funds.
  • From the Work in Progress (WIP) Lab section of Film Bazaar, the Kannada film 'Mithya' bagged the Prasad Post-production Award, while the multilingual Nepali, Kumaoni, and Hindi film 'Bahadur' won the Moviebuff Appreciation Award.
  • Two short movies, 'Perianayaki' by Bala Murali Shingade and Suchana Saha's animated film 'Priyo Ami', received the under the "Film Bazaar Recommends (FBR) " category. The French Institute Award by the French Embassy was given to 'Kissa – E – Circus' by Savita Singh which was showcased in the co-production market.

Film 'Dear Diary' Wins 53-Hour Challenge for 75 Creative Minds

  • The second edition of '75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow' at International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa concluded with the award ceremony of the "53-Hour Challenge". The competition provided a challenge to the 75 Creative Minds selected from all over the country to produce a short film on their idea of India@100, all in 53 hours.
  • The competition was launched by Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur. During 53 hour deadline, 5 short films were made. From the shoot, to the final film delivery, the filmmakers worked non-stop, to bring their scripts to life. The film 'Dear Diary' made by Team Purple, was adjudged as the best movie. The winning film highlights the issue of women's safety. The other four films made under the competition were Antardrishti, The Ring, Almost and Sau Ka Note. All five films were telecast across India on Shorts TV. The competition was organised by National Film Development Corporation in collaboration with Shorts TV.

  • A young jewellery designer and a freelance artist are among the approximately 40 people who wish to keep the centuries-old Kotah miniature art form alive by inculcating it in their modern professions.
  • Participating in a 10-day 'Kotah Miniature Art Workshop' organised by the Kotah royal family-run Rao Madho Singh Museum Trust at City Palace, the participants got to learn and practice the skills and techniques at length.

Meghalaya: Wangala100 Drums Festival

  • The 46th edition of the Wangala Festival held in November 2022.
  • Wangala Festival is a popular festival of the Garo community in Meghalaya. It is also known as a 100 Drums Festival. It is a harvest festival that honours the Garo tribe's main deity, Saljong – the Sun god of fertility. The celebrations of this festival marked the start of the winter season and the end of the period of toil, which brings profitable outputs.
  • Presently, this festival is seen as a means to preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Garo tribe in Meghalaya. It provides the opportunity for Garos to showcase their culture and traditions. During the 2022 celebrations, tourists from France, Gujarat, Bengaluru, Kerala, Assam, Sikkim, and other places witnessed this festival.

Andhra Pradesh Celebrates 55th National Library Week

  • The 55th National Library Week is being celebrated in all libraries of Andhra Pradesh from November 14, 2022. The 55th National Library Week is a week-long celebration and was inaugurated in Tummalapalli Kalakshetram by State Ministers Taneti Vanita, Botcha Satyanarayana, and Jogi Ramesh.
  • The 55th National Library Week celebrations would also give impetus to the School Education Department's 'We Love Reading' initiative. The inauguration of Library Week also coincides with Children's Day on November 14.
  • On November 16, tributes would be paid to veterans like S. R. Ranganathan, Pathuri Nagabhushanam, and Ayyanki Venkataramanaiah who played a crucial role in the library movement in the State.
  • On November 17, poetry sessions and seminars would be held.
  • on November 18, competitions such as drawing, essay writing, personality development, quiz, and various games and sports will be conducted for students.

Carlos Saura to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 53rd IFFI, Goa

  • Carlos Saura, Award-winning Spanish Film Director will be honoured with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India which starts from November 20 to 28, 2022 in Panaji, Goa.
  • The International Film Festival of India this year will see 280 films from 79 countries, including 20 non-feature films and 25 feature films screened over the 8-day period. 'Alma and Oskar', the Austrian film which is directed by Dieter Berner will open the annual festival while Krzysztof Zanussi's 'Perfect Number' will be the closing film.
  • As per the Information and Broadcasting Secretary, Apurva Chandra, the 53rd edition of the festival is important as it is the first chapter to be organized in person after the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.
