Kerala Set to Host First International Beach Festival

  • The 'Spice Coast' in the far north of Kerala, better known as North Malabar, will bask in myriad colours and the pomp and splendour of the cultural extravaganza titled 'Bekal International Beach Festival' from December 24.
  • Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the 10-day first international beach festival, that captures the wholeness and the essence of the district's cultural and artistic uniqueness and displays the rich cultural diversity and grandeur of the country, at the majestic Bekal Beach Park.
  • The festival which also aims at revitalising the district's development by showcasing its potential, will offer a feast of cultural and musical nights, along with food festivals that capture the cuisine of Kasargod, exhibitions, and tour programmes.

Ministry of Culture in Collaboration with Prasiddha Foundation Organises Delhi International Arts...

  • Ministry of Culture in collaboration with Prasiddha Foundation inaugurated Delhi International Arts Festival at Kartavya Path with the tag-line – 'Where Bharat Meets India'.
  • The festival aims to celebrate the great Epics, the Warriors Who Fought for Our Freedom, and the many policy decisions and schemes instituted by our Government towards 'Women Empowerment', towards 'Cleaning Our Holy Rivers', towards keeping our Country 'Clean and Free from Dirt and Disease'.

Gujarat's Vadnagar, Modhera Sun Temple on UNESCO Sites Tentative List

  • Two heritage sites from Gujarat, the Sun Temple at Modhera and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hometown Vadnagar, both in Mehasana district, found place among the three sites from India that were added to the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
  • The third site added to the list is rock-cut relief sculptures of Unakoti in Tripura.
  • As per the UNESCO website, a tentative list is an inventory of those properties which each state party intends to consider for nomination.

Bolivian Film Utama Wins Suvarna Chakoram at IFFK 2022

  • Bolivian film Utama, which brilliantly portrayed the daily struggles of people faced with a drought, won the Golden Crow Pheasant award aka Suvarna Chakoram for best film at the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The Rajatha Chakoram — Silver Crow Pheasant — for the best director went to Turkey's Tayfun Pirselimoglu.
  • Utama, which tells the story of Clever who visits his elderly grandparents in a midst of a drought, is directed by Alejandro Loayza Grisi. The award was received by film producer Santiago Loayza Grisi, who is also Alejandro's twin brother.
  • The award, that carries a purse of Rs. 20 lakh and a certificate, was presented by Culture Minister V. N. Vasavan. Tayfun received Rs. 4 lakh and a certificate. He won the award for his film Kerr, which is based on the life of a young man who witnesses a murder.

The 20th Chennai International Film Festival Thrown Open

  • The 20th Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) was formally launched with an inaugural ceremony. The eight-day film festival (December 15-22) was inaugurated by Minister for Information and Publicity M.P. Saminathan, who expressed his elation that the festival was taking place in a grand manner, especially after the pandemic.
  • Organised by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) in association with PVR Cinemas, the CIFF films will be screened at Sathyam Multiplex and Anna Cinemas in Chennai.
  • Apart from the world cinema section, 15 films which include three Tamil movies will be screened as part of the Indian Panorama. As a part of the Tamil film competition section, 12 films will be screened. The jury this year will select and give away nine awards in this category.

The 20th Edition of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival

  • The 20th Edition of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival was held in Kathmandu, Nepal. This year, the festival was held from December 8 to 12, 2022. The festival resumed its physical screening after two years, because of the pandemic and showcased numerous films from across the world.
  • The key focus of the film fest was on the mountain communities and cultures to Nepalese audiences. This year, the audience witnessed more than 60 films from 30 different countries, at the Rastriya Sabga Griha and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Exhibition Road.
  • The theme of the film fest was 'Sustainable Summits' and featured documentaries, fiction, shorts as well as experimental and animated films.
  • Indian film Bandhua (Bonded), directed by Shobhit Jain was also featured in the International Competitive Film category along with films like Ayena, Before You were my Mother, and Matto ki Saikil.
