First Digital Exhibition on Indian Heritage Inaugurated
The State of Culture and Tourism minister launched a month long exhibition on Indian Heritage in New Delhi. The exhibition was launched in digital space and will stay online till February 15, 2020.
This exhibition is first of its kind in the country. The visitors of the exhibition will find architectural and conjectural reconstructions, recreations of socio-cultural traditions and life of Hampi and also many more murals. Through this, the exhibition will take heritage to wider population. It has overcome the barrier that heritage was restricted only to research. When the reach of significance of heritage increases, accountability of citizens increases. This will help to protect age old structures and monuments in a better way.

Oldest Known Sketch of Venice Unearthed
A Renaissance historian has unearthed the oldest known image of Venice dating from the 14th century, showing how even then the city of canals gripped the imagination of visitors.
Sandra Toffolo, a researcher at the University of Saint Andrews in Scotland, found the sketch in a manuscript describing Italian pilgrim Niccolo da Poggibonsi's 1346-1350 voyage to Jerusalem which took him through the bustling port city.
The discovery of this view of the city is of great importance for our understanding of images of Venice, because it shows that even from very early on, the city held great fascination for contemporaries.

On Pongal day, traditional bull-taming event 'Jallikattu' begins in Madurai
After worldwide protests by the people in the state in 2017 to lift the ban against Jallikattu, Tamil Nadu is set to host the event on 15-17 January on the occasion of Pongal.
On the first day of Jallikattu (the bull-taming sport), held in Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai district, 13 people were injured. Four people have, reportedly, suffered major injuries.
A total of 453 bulls participated in the event compared to last year when 600 bulls took part in the annual sport.
This year, the state government had formulated stricter norms and many bulls were disqualified to avoid any accidents.
In Tamil Nadu, Pudukottai hosts the highest number of Jallikattu every year. In 2018, there were over 72 such events. The number has, however, gone down to 60 this year. From January 18 to 20, three Jallikatu events will be held.
India constructs new buildings for five schools in Lanka's Northern Province
A special event was held at St Henry's College, Ilavalai in Jaffna during which new school buildings constructed with the Indian assistance in Northern Province were handed over to the people of Sri Lanka.
As Sri Lankan Tamils celebrate the Thai Pongal festival, handed over new buildings for five schools it constructed in Northern Province under the people-oriented development cooperation with the Sri Lankan government.
At the event which coincided with the Thai Pongal festival, Northern Province Governor PSM Charles and the Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Vinod K Jacob jointly inaugurated the new buildings.
Senior government officials, leaders from the region, students and teachers of the schools and local people attended the functions.

World Hindi Day
World Hindi Day is celebrated every year on 10 January. The first World Hindi Day was celebrated in 2006 for the first time, followed by Hindi Day on January 10 every year. Earlier in 1975, Hindi World Hindi Conference was organized under the leadership of Indira Gandhi. After this it started being held in Mauritius, UK, US.
It is completely different from Hindi Day. Hindi day is celebrated on 14 September in India. On this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as the official language for the first time. At the same time, the main purpose of World Hindi Day is to recognize it globally.
Hindi is taught in more than 30 countries of the world.

The Selfie Kingdom (TSK), Dubai's first ever dedicated selfie museum, has opened its doors for photo/selfie enthusiasts of all ages. Located Close to the Expo 2020 site, TSK is an interactive space that aims to inspire creativity, art, design and promote digital content.
