Ministry of Culture to Organize Two Day Rishikesh Music Festival 2022

  • Ministry of Culture is organizing the second edition of "Rishikesh Music Festival 2022" on 14th-15th May 2022 as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. This edition is being organized jointly with Sangeet Natak Academy, Uttarakhand Tourism and Kutani Handpan Academy. The event will be graced by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, alongside other dignitaries.
  • Rishikesh Music Festival is an annual music festival held in the Himalayan foothill area of Rishikesh, India, beside river Ganga. The line-up of this festival includes a mix of established and emerging, sub-continental and global artists.
  • The main aim of Rishikesh Music Festival includes promotion of Rishikesh as a global Centre for music learning and music production, promotion of Musical Tourism in Rishikesh, showcase and document intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

India Embarks on the World's Largest Film Restoration Project under National Film Heritage Mission

  • Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur launched World's largest film restoration project under National Film Heritage Mission (NFHM).
  • Under National Film Heritage Mission, approximately 2,200 films will undergo restoration. The titles were shortlisted by language wise committees consisting of filmmakers, documentary filmmakers, film historians, producers etc. Eminent film personalities such as Aparna Sen, Shriram Raghavan, Anjali Menon and Vetrimaaran were part of the committees.
  • Indian Cinema, which has been in existence for more than a hundred years now, holds a very unique place in the pantheon of world cinema. The restoration of Indian films will once again give a chance to the current and future generations to relive the glory of these films which have enamored audiences for decades.
  • Beyond Satyajit Ray films, feature films as diverse as 'Neelakuyil' (Malayalam) and 'Do Aakhein Barah Haath' (Hindi) will also be covered. Extremely important shorts and documentaries from the collection of NFAI, Films Division and other rare materials, including pre independence, will also be restored as they capture the growth of India like no other.

Three-day Utkarsh Mahotsav Organised by Central Sanskrit University begins in New Delhi

  • A three-day Utkarsh Mahotsav was organised by Central Sanskrit University in New Delhi. The objective behind organising the Utkarsh Mahotsav is to promote the Sanskrit language across the country and beyond. They will leave no stone unturned to promote the Sanskrit language across the country and abroad.
  • The Centralisation of three Sanskrit Universities reflects PM Modi's strong commitment to preserving and promoting the Sanskrit language across the nation. The event is being jointly organised by the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, Shri Lal Bahadur National Sanskrit University, New Delhi and National Sanskrit University, Tirupati.
  • The focus of the Mahotsav is the New Educational Era – Moving Towards a Global Orientation of Sanskrit Studies.
  • The main theme of this Mahotsav is 'Global Orientation of Sanskrit Studies in the New Educational Era' Vice-Chancellors of 17 Sanskrit Universities, Scholars and a large number of students participated in the event.

Largest Native American Cave Art Revealed by 3D Scans

  • Deep in a damp cave in northern Alabama, archaeologists have made a giant discovery. On a subterranean ceiling just half a meter high, researchers have uncovered the largest cave art discovered in North America: intricate etchings of humanlike figures and a serpent, carved by Native Americans more than 1000 years ago.
  • Although the U.S. Southwest is famous for petroglyphs carved into canyons and cliff faces, much of the southeast's rock art is hidden underground in caves. "Forty years ago, no one would have thought the southeast had much cave art.

North East Festival 2022 Concludes With Great Enthusiasm & Public Participation in Guwahati

  • President Ram Nath Kovind attended the closing ceremony of North East Festival. Discussion and deliberation sessions were also held in North East Festival 2022 to enhance of the development in the North Eastern region.
  • President Ramnath Kovind highlighted in ceremony that key areas like Agriculture, employment generation, skill development, connectivity and infrastructure, social services including health and education and Tourism development in the NER along with infrastructural development have gone a significant change.

Char Dham Yatra Begins with Opening of Gangotri-Yamunotri Temples for Devotees

  • The Char Dham yatra began with the opening of portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples in Uttarakhand on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya. Portals of Kedarnath Dham will open on May 6, while that of Badrinath Dham on May 8. The gates of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples were opened in the presence of thousands of devotees, and administrative and temple committee officials yesterday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with his wife also visited Gangotri to offer prayers and witness the ceremonious opening of the temple gates.
  • A record number of pilgrims are likely to visit Char Dham this year as it is for the first time since 2019 that the yatra has begun without the COVID-induced restrictions in force.
  • Uttarakhand government has decided to impose a ban on the movement of vehicles on mountain routes in the state from 10 am to 4 pm in view of the Chardham Yatra. The decision has been taken for the convenience and safe journey of the pilgrims on Char dham Yatra.

India Official Country of Honour at Cannes Film Market

  • India was the official country of honour at the Cannes Film Market. As the country celebrates its 75th year of Independence, coinciding with Cannes Film Festival's 75th anniversary, a brand new restoration of Indian cinema legend Satyajit Ray's rare movie Pratidwandi was presented in an exclusive screening at the movie gala. Apart from Pratidwandi, Hollywood classic Singin' In The Rain, was presented in a brand new 4K restoration.
  • Bollywood star Deepika Padukone was a part of the competition jury of this edition of the festival along with prestigious names such as actor-filmmaker Rebecca Hall and Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.

National Seminar on Indian Cinema and Soft Power Inaugurated in Mumbai

  • Two-day National Seminar on 'Indian Cinema and Soft Power' was inaugurated in Mumbai today by film maker Shekhar Kapoor in presence of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Speaking on this occasion, Governor Koshyari shared his experience about film watching and said today Indian Cinema is at par with Hollywood, but there is a need to learn from what Hollywood has given to the world. He said, the real power lies in the culture and there is a need to value and encourage it. The Governor said, Indian epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana are classic examples that have so many stories to tell.
  • The Indian Council for Cultural Relations and FLAME University had organized the two-day seminar. It aims to deliberate about the potential of Indian Cinema in movie making and policy design to further cultivate cultural sensitivities towards India.
