IIT Delhi, United Nations Development Programme Partner for Sustainable Solutions

IIT Delhi and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create solutions for advancing sustainable development, with a focus on environment, energy, and climate change.
The partnership will work towards developing and promoting innovative and scalable solutions to support transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient pathways through policy and implementation support. Key areas of cooperation will include climate change adaptation, loss and damage, strengthening national systems of innovation for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and leveraging digital solutions for transition to green energy and other climate technologies.
The MoU was signed for a period of three years. With this agreement, both organisations aim to catalyse meaningful change, driving initiatives for a greener, more resilient world.

Tata Steel Inks MoU with IIT Bhubaneswar REP to Foster Innovation

In a move aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, Tata Steel inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IIT Bhubaneswar Research and Entrepreneurship Park (REP). This partnership signifies a strategic alignment between industry and academia to explore avenues for mutual growth and development.
Under the terms of the agreement, Tata Steel and IIT Bhubaneswar REP, a company promoted by IIT Bhubaneswar, are set to embark on a journey of collaboration across various domains. These include:
Materials Processing and Modelling: Delving into advanced techniques and methodologies to enhance materials processing efficiency and optimize production processes.
Energy and Environment: Undertaking joint research efforts to address challenges related to energy consumption, environmental sustainability, and eco-friendly practices within the steel industry.
Low Carbon Steel Production and Circular Economy: Pioneering initiatives aimed at reducing carbon footprint, promoting circular economy principles, and developing sustainable steel-making practices.

Ministry of DoNER, North Eastern Council and IIM Shillong sign MoU for Continued Operation of Dr....

An MoU was signed between the NEC Shillong, IIM Shillong and the MDoNER for continuing the operation of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis deepening engagement with IIM Shillong at the NEC Secretariat, Shillong and MDoNER joining through weblink. The MoU was signed by Angshuman Dey, Joint Secretary MDoNER , Shri Moses K Chalai, Secretary, NEC and Prof. D.P Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong in the presence of Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, MDoNER and other senior officials of DoNER, NEC and IIM Shillong.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis was created by a tripartite agreement between IIM Shillong and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and North Eastern Council singed on 15th October 2016. It and aimed to emerge as a state-of-the-art centre to assist the states of North East India and the implementing agencies to plan and executive the projects properly, promote innovations and functions as repository of best practices in the region.

IIT Delhi, Queensland University to Offer Joint PhD Programme

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the University of Queensland (UQ) partnered together to offer a joint PhD programme across various disciplines through the UQ-IITD Academy of Research (UQIDAR).
The programme is open to both Indian and Australian students. Indian students and other international students will commence their first year at IIT Delhi as i-students. They will then go on to continue their programme at UQ for one year before returning to IIT Delhi to conclude their programme.
On the other hand, Australian students will be enrolled as Q-students and will study their first year at UQ, then move to IIT Delhi for one year and then return to UQ for the remained of the programme to complete it. Scholarships for Indian and international students will be made available for i-students.

Germany Overtakes Canada as Premier Study Abroad Destination

According to the annual Study Abroad Trends Report 3.0 from edtech unicorn upGrad, Germany overtook Canada as the premier study abroad destination in 2024.
Recent developments including diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, rising living costs, uncertainty regarding jobs and a drop in study permits issued to Indian students seem to have led to a sharp decline in Canada's popularity—only 9.3% of respondents picked it as a dream destination—the survey has revealed.

National Conference on APAAR: One Nation One Student ID Card Inaugurated by Dharmendra Pradhan

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan participated in the National Conference on APAAR: One Nation One Student ID Card held in New Delhi. During the event, Pradhan stressed the significance of the APAAR ID as a prestigious and internationally recognised document for students across the nation.
Pointing out the significance of numerous key Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) that have emerged in the nation recently, he noted that 53 such DPIs have been established across 16 countries, with 19 located in India.
The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) stands as a transformative initiative in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 and the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCrF).
Its objective is to streamline and unify the academic journey of students throughout India by issuing a distinct and permanent 12-digit ID to each student. This ID serves to centralise their academic accomplishments, providing easy access to their educational records.

CBSE to Open Office in Dubai, Announces PM Modi

Emphasising the commitment to provide the best education in the UAE, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a new Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) office will soon be established in Dubai.
Addressing the gathering at the 'Ahlan Modi' diaspora event in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi highlighted the significant achievements in the education sector, stating that more than 1.5 lakh Indian students are studying in UAE schools. The master's course was started at the IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi in January and a new CBSE office will be opened soon in Dubai.

IIT Madras, Jharkhand University Partners to Boost Deep-tech Disciplines in Jharkhand

IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation entered into a strategic partnership with the Jharkhand University of Technology (JUT) in Ranchi. The objective is to boost education, innovation and skill development ecosystems in deep-tech disciplines in Jharkhand.
The key focus on this partnership is on innovation, skill development, industry-academia collaboration and incubation support for nurturing start-ups.
This MoU will establish the groundwork for fostering the development of Jharkhand University of Technology's Research Park, facilitating collaboration between academia and industry, promoting research, innovation, and incubation. Together, we aim to contribute to the advancement of Jharkhand and moving towards Viksit Bharat 2047.

CUET UG 2024 to be in Hybrid Mode

The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET UG) is set to undergo significant changes this year (2024), as it transitions from an online format to a hybrid mode, as per media reports.
UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar stated that the CUET UG 2024 examinations, conducted nationwide, will adopt a hybrid approach. This format will include the traditional pen-and-paper test using OMR sheets alongside the Computer Based Test (CBT).
As per reports, officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) said that several modifications are in store for this edition of the exam, including alterations to the format, subject choices, and difficulty level.

IREDA and IIT Bhubaneswar Sign MoU to Drive Clean Energy Innovation

In a bid to catalyse innovation and research within the renewable energy domain, the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement is poised to bolster collaborative endeavours in innovation and research, facilitate technology transfer, and cultivate a thriving start-up ecosystem.
The partnership between IREDA and IIT Bhubaneswar will facilitate joint research ventures and technology exchange, and offer comprehensive support to budding start-ups. Additionally, it will encompass capacity-building initiatives such as training programs, seminars, and workshops to enhance the skills of IREDA personnel.

ICAI Elects New President, Vice President

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) elected Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal as its new President. The baton was passed from Aniket S. Talati to CA Ranjeet. He assumed charge as the 72nd President of ICAI.
A graduate of Calcutta University, Agarwal is a practicing Chartered Accountant since last 24 years. He is also a Company Secretary and DISA from ICAI. He was elected to the 23rd, 24th and 25th Central Council of ICAI three times in a row.
