Executive Certificate Programme for CEOs by IIM Raipur

  • The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur, one of the leading B-schools in India, launched 1st batch of the Executive Certificate Programme, "Leadership at Peak"; an intensive leadership development course integrating real-world scenarios into leadership education. The certificate programme is suitable for CEOs, CXOs, CFOs, and individuals in senior managerial positions with over 10 years of experience.
  • The 7-month-long executive course is crafted according to the market trends and will provide insights through the merger of theoretical learning and practical knowledge from esteemed leaders across various domains, including Civil Services.

Indians Shift to LMIA Route amid Canada Student Caps

  • Following the imposition of intake caps on international student admissions to Canada this year, many Indians hoping to emigrate have been turning to alternative routes. For many, the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) permit has emerged as a preferred option.
  • The LMIA programme allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers if recruitment efforts for hiring local employees fail. Employers need to post their job requirements on the official Canadian portal (https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/findajob/foreign-candidates), and eligible foreign workers can apply through it.
  • According to the Canadian government's website, "A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do the job. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a 'confirmation letter'.

CBSE 10th, 12th Results 2024: JNVs, Kendriya Vidyalayas Continue to Shine, CTSA Get Top Spots in ...

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released the Class 10 and 12 results in which Class 12 registered a pass percentage of 87.98 per cent, and the pass percentage in Class 10 stood at 93.60 per cent.
  • This time, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) performed better than the rest of the institutes.
  • JNVs and KVs registered a pass percentage of 99.09 per cent in Class 10 results. A similar trend was seen last year when JNVs scored 99.14 per cent, while KVs scored a pass percentage of 98 per cent.
  • The year, too, CTSA led the year by scoring an overall pass percentage of 99.23 per cent, followed by JNV at 98.90 and KVs at 98.81 per cent.
  • CTSA was at second spot last year with 96.77 per cent, while JNV had the top spot with 97.51 per cent and KV was at the third spot with 92.51 per cent.

AIIMS New Delhi Signs MoU with University of Bolton Institute of Medicine

  • AIIMS New Delhi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Bolton Institute of Medicine to collaborate in the field of medical research, innovation and education. The medical institute said that the MoU was signed through a virtual event by executives from both institutions. It added that the partnership will encompass various initiatives such as staff and student exchange, educational conferences and collaborative degree programmes. This MoU will help the institutes to address global challenges and share expertise with the world.

IndiaSkills Competition Commences

  • The IndiaSkills Competition 2024 – the country's biggest skill competition designed to demonstrate the highest standards of skilling commenced on May 15, 2024. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) organised an inauguration ceremony at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi which will witnessed the participation of over 900 students from more than 30 states and Union Territories and over 400 industry experts.
  • The four-day-long IndiaSkills will allow participants to showcase their diverse skills and talent on a national platform across 61 skills – from traditional crafts to cutting-edge technologies. While 47 skills competitions will be held onsite, 14 will be held offsite in Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat keeping in mind the availability of best infrastructure. The students will also participate in 9 exhibition skills such as Drone-Film making, Textile-Weaving, Leather-Shoemaking, and prosthetics-makeup.
  • Winners of IndiaSkills, with the help of the best industry trainers, will get prepared for the WorldSkills Competition scheduled to take place in Lyon, France in September 2024, which will bring together 1,500 competitors from over 70 countries.

BHU to Consider UGC, CSIR NET Scores for PhD Admission

  • Banaras Hindu University (BHU) announced to use University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET) 2024 scores as criteria for admission to its PhD programmes for the academic session 2024-25.
  • BHU stated that the comprehensive PhD information bulletin for 2024 will be made available on the official website, bhu.ac.in.

Kerala Govt Ramp up Efforts to Tackle Bird Flu Outbreak

  • In light of incidents of bird flu cases in Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts, the Kerala government directed the authorities there to step up efforts to bring the situation under control. State Animal Husbandry Minister J. Chinchu Rani chaired a high-level meeting to assess the situation in various poultry and duck farms in the above districts, as well as those under the department. The minister convened the meeting following the outbreak of avian influenza reported from the Government Duck Breeding Centre at Niranam in Pathanamthitta. An official release stated that 4,081 ducks would be culled at the Niranam Government Duck Breeding Centre.

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan Honoured with Honorary Doctorate by McGill University

  • Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, a globally renowned leader in public health and infectious diseases, was named among the 10 exceptional individuals to receive an honorary degree from Canada's prestigious McGill University during the Spring 2024 Convocation ceremonies.
  • Swaminathan has had an illustrious career spanning over 40 years in clinical care and research. She joined the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 as the Deputy Director-General (Programmes) and was appointed as the organization's first Chief Scientist in March 2019, a role she served through the COVID-19 pandemic until late 2022.
  • McGill University, a public research institution in Montreal with a history spanning more than two centuries, grants honorary degrees to individuals "who have lifetime records of outstanding scholarly, scientific, or artistic achievement, or of exceptional contributions to the public good through professional or philanthropic activity."

IIT Bhilai, TeamLease EdTech Launch 3 New Advanced eMasters Courses

  • The Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai (IIT Bhilai) launched three advanced eMasters programme in partnership with TeamLease EdTech for working professionals, to up skill candidates in the evolving fields of electric vehicles (EVs), data science, and robotics.
  • The programmes launched by IIT Bhilai jointly are eMasters in advanced electrical vehicle systems, eMasters in applied mechatronics and robotics, and eMasters in data science & data analytics.
  • These online eMasters programs are mainly targeted toward working professionals and those learners who cannot dedicate full time to undergoing master's programs and their jobs. Also, eMasters courses include dedicated in-campus modules that offer students physical learning experience in an IIT environment and hands-on laboratory sessions.

IIT Guwahati, NSDC Introduce Daksh Gurukul Skill Academy for Credit Based Programs to Youths

  • National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati introduced the Daksh Gurukul Skill Academy to provide credit-linked programs in new-age skills to the youth.
  • The academy was launched formally during a roundtable discussion on 'Capacity building for adoption of the New Education Policy and National Credit Framework' organized at IIT Guwahati and moderated by NSDC. The discussion centered on the comprehensive approach of empowering students with new-age employability skills by seamlessly integrating credits into mainstream degrees through credit transfer facilitated by the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) under the National Credit Framework (NCrF).

UT Austin, Rice University Declared as Ivy League Schools

  • Two Texas schools, University of Texas (UT), in Austin and Rice University in Houston, joined the ranks of Ivy League institutions, according to Forbes.
  • The two institutions are attracting the smartest students and plaudits from employers.
  • The development came as a piece of great news for Indian international students who are enrolled in large numbers in these two Texas schools, especially after India surpassed China as top source of International graduate students.
