Poular Bollywood actor Sonu Sood was named the brand ambassador by Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi for the 'Desh ka mentors' programme. Delhi Chief Minister said under this initiative students will be guided in making their career choices.
Leading Indian Leprologist S. K. Noordeen
The World Health Organisation mourned the loss of legendary Indian leprologist Dr. Shaik Khader Noordeen who led the global fight against leprosy during its most critical years and oversaw the rollout of multi drug therapy, the mainstay of leprosy treatment to date. S. K. Noordeen was 88.
Hailing from Chennai, Dr. Noordeen was the director of the WHO's Action Programme for the Elimination of Leprosy from 1994 to 1998, during the crucial years that saw the global roll-out and implementation of multidrug therapy (MDT) which remains, to this day, the main tool for the treatment and elimination of the disease.
He led the International Leprosy Association, was a Founding Trustee and Chair of the Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation and a Member of the Technical Resource Group of India's National Leprosy Eradication Programme.
Before joining WHO, Dr Noordeen had led the Central Leprosy Training and Research Institute in his native state of Tamil Nadu.

Padma Shri Awardee Agriculture Scientist B. V. Nimbkar Passes Away
Noted agricultural scientist and recipient of Padma Shri award, B. V. Nimbkar, died at Phaltan in Maharashtra's Satara district. He was 90.
Nimbkar was the founder of Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute and worked in the research and development of animal husbandry and agriculture.
He was awarded with Padma Shri Award in 2006 for his contribution in the field of agriculture. He was also the recipient of prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj award.
Chad's ex-ruler Hissène Habré has died at the age of 79 while serving a life sentence for crimes against humanity.
Habré was found guilty in 2016 of crimes committed while he was President from 1982 to 1990.
The conviction was the result of a landmark trial in Senegal. It was the first time an African Union-backed court had tried a former ruler for human rights abuses.
Habré was accused of being behind rape, sexual slavery and ordering killings while in power. He denied any knowledge of the crimes.
A commission of inquiry formed in Chad after he was deposed in 1990 said his government carried out some 40,000 politically motivated murders and 200,000 cases of torture in the eight years he was in power.
Former India footballer Olympian Chandrasekharan Passes Away
Former India footballer O. Chandrasekharan, popularly known as Olympian Chandrasekharan in his home state Kerala, died at the age of 86.
Chandrasekharan, who played as a defender, was a member of the Indian team in the 1960 Rome Olympics, the last time the country participated in football at the Games.
Chandrasekharan was also part of Indian teams that won gold in the 1962 Asian Games, silver in the 1964 AFC Asian Cup, silver in the Merdeka Tournament (1959 and 1964). He played alongside some of the greatest names in Indian football like PK Banerjee, Chuni Goswami, Tulsidas Balaraman, Simon Sunderraj, Peter Thangaraj, Jarnail Singh, and Mariappa Kempaiah.

Researcher, Author Gail Omvedt Passes Away
Researcher, author and one of the intellectual voices of the Bahujan movement Gail Omvedt passed away. She was 81.
Omvedt was an American-born Indian scholar who authored books on Dalit politics, women's struggle and anti-caste movement. She also participated in various people's movements in the country, including the one for the rights of people displaced by to Koyna Dam.
She co-founded Shramik Mukti Dal along with her husband and activist Bharat Patankar.
After deciding to live in India, her association with veteran social worker Indutai Patankar led to her studying and participating in women's struggles in the country.
Sri Lanka's Former Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera Passes Away
Mangala Samaraweera, a former Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka and a notable advocate of liberalism from the country's dominant Sinhala-Buddhist polity, passed away in Colombo. He was 65.
Having built his political career in the SLFP, mainly under Presidents Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Mahinda Rajapaksa, Mr. Samaraweera defected to the rival United National Party (UNP) in 2010, after he fell out with Mr. Rajapaksa.
He served as Foreign Minister twice, from 2005 to 2007 in Mahinda Rajapaksa's first term as President, and from 2015 to 2017 in the Maithripala Sirisena-Ranil Wickremesinghe 'national unity' government, when he engaged closely with the international community, with Sri Lanka promising to fulfil several commitments towards post-war accountability and transitional justice.

National Football Coach S. S. Hakim Passes Away
Syed Shahid Jakim, former India footballer and member of the last national team that played in the 1960 Rome Olympics died at a hospital in Gulbarga. He was 82.
In his more than five-decade association with Indian football, Hakim, a Dronacharya Awardee, has also been an assistant coach to late PK Banerjee during the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi and also independently has been in charge of the national team during a tournament in Merdeka.
He has been a FIFA badge holder international referee having officiated in Asian Club Cup games and was also conferred with the prestigious Dhyan Chand Award.
A former Squadron Leader of the Indian Air Force, Hakim was also a Regional Director of Sports Authority of India and his last assignment was as Project Director in charge of scouting before the 2017 U-17 FIFA World Cup.
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh Passes Away
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP veteran Kalyan Singh passed away at the age of 89 at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI).
Singh was the UP Chief Minister when the Babri mosque was demolished by a mob in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992.
He was also the former governor of Rajasthan from September 2014 to September 2019.
