South African Tourism's 17th Annual Roadshow

  • South African Tourism is all set to mark the beginning of 2020 with their biggest, independent trade initiative in India – their annual Roadshow. The 17th edition of the Roadshow will travel to the 3 Indian cities of Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai on 13th, 14th and 15th January 2020, respectively.
  • Capitalizing on the massive growth potential offered by the Indian outbound traveller segment, the 48 member South African trade delegation will take the opportunity to educate and enable Indian trade
  • partners to sell the destination better. In addition to experiences, representatives from accommodation
  • establishments, destination management companies, airlines, tourism associations will display their
  • products and engage Indian travel and trade associates.

Braille Menus to be a Part of Restaurants and Hotels

  • In a bid to make the hotels and restaurants more inclusive, Delhi hotels and restaurants will soon be coming up with menus designed in Braille script for the visually impaired. The move comes in the wake of recent order passed by The Delhi State Commissioner of Person with Disabilities (PWD), who made it mandatory for almost 400 restaurants and hotels to have their menus printed in Braille for the ease of visually impaired guests.
  • In terms of execution of this new development, commissioner, TD Dhariyal instructed the members of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) to implement the order given by the court.
  • The order also highlighted that the Ministry of Tourism should put together the relevant provisions/requirements/measurement and designs for various facilities in the hotels and restaurants irrespective of their category in a smaller booklet by extracting the same from the Harmonised Guidelines. Besides, it also stated that the smaller booklet should be uploaded in the website of Ministry of Tourism, FHRAI and each hotel and restaurant and appropriate directives should be issued to every hotel and restaurant owner to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Act.

IRCTC to Launch Tejas Train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai on Jan 17

  • The second privately operated IRCTC's premium Tejas train, which will ply between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, will be launched on January 17.
  • Like in the first Tejas, which runs on the Delhi-Lucknow route, the railways will compensate passengers if the new train gets delayed.
  • First commercial run of the Tejas train will be on January 19. It will ply on Ahmedabad - Mumbai- Ahmedabad route for six days a week with Thursday as an off-day for maintenance.

Underwater Beauty of Rumkale to Open to Visitors

  • The Roman-era ruins located on the outskirts of the historical Rumkale, called the pearl of the River Euphrates, which hosted many civilizations in history, will open to visitors with an underwater project.
  • The castle and its surroundings attract the attention of local and foreign tourists with its natural beauties along the Euphrates in spring, as well as the historical buildings it has.
  • Rumkale, which is also considered holy by Christians, is said to have been inhabited during the Roman period by one of the apostles of the prophet Jesus and the Bible was copied in a room carved from the rock.
  • The Culture and Tourism Ministry listed Rumkale as one of Turkey's 13 most spectacular castles and works are continuing to add the castle to Turkish tourism.

Telangana Develops Somalisa as Tourism Destination

  • Telangana Tourism opened an air-conditioned two-storeye ferry, and ten three-star cottages in Somalisa, Kollapur, which is located at the brackwaters of Krishna River.
  • Previouly a Naxal zone, Somalisa, is now being transformed into a world class eco-tourism destination.

MP Tourism Invites Bids for Developing 7 Sites into Tourism Facilities

  • The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board released a list of land parcels, for which it has invited bids for development into tourism sites and hotels through PPP mode.
  • The land parcels and properties include Benazir Palace in Bhopal, Sawant Nagar in Takagarh, Madhavgarh Fort, Mehgavan, Patakhali (Nagarbeda) in Khandwa, Juna Kathhivada in Alirajpur and Khapa in Betul.

ABTO Opens Asia Office in Thailand

  • Association of Buddhist Tour Operators (ABTO) opened its Asian office in Pattaya, Thailand. ABTO also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) for co-operation I the field of travel and tourism, with an aim to promote Buddhist pilgrimage tourism between the two nations.
