Special Math Classes in Delhi Govt. Schools

  • To improve Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 examination results in Delhi government schools, the state cabinet approved the directorate of education's proposal to use private agencies to conduct special classes in mathematics.
  • Slated to begin in January 2020, the initial phase of the 'Maths Teaching Project' will focus on over 30,000 class 10 students from 342 Delhi government schools found to have a low pass percentage, ranging between 7.02% and 55%, in mathematics.
  • The job of the agencies would be to customise the content to help students prepare for the board exams. The package is proposed to be of 100 hours, covering important topics to be completed before the board exams.

EAMCET in AP from April 20-24, 2020

  • AP EAMCET 2020 will be conducted by JNTU, Kakinada on April 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24, 2020 to grant admissions to students into engineering, agricultural and pharmacy courses offered by colleges in Andhra Pradesh. As per AP EAMCET 2020 Eligibility, candidates appearing or having passed class 12 with PCM/B are eligible to apply for AP EAMCET 2020.
     • AP EAMCET 2020 Application Form will tentatively be available from February 26, 2020 at the official portal.
    • The application fees is INR 500 for engineering or agriculture stream and INR 1000 for both the streams.
    • As per AP EAMCET 2020 Exam Pattern, it will be an online test of 3 hours duration having 160 MCQs of 1 mark each.
   • There will be no negative marking in the exam. The paper will be set in English and Telugu languages.
   • AP EAMCET 2020 Syllabus will contain various topics from the subjects of Mathematics/ Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Govt. Panel Okays Animal Testing at PG Level Medical Colleges

  • The expert committee formed by Union health ministry has suggested against doing away with the practice of use of animals for experimentation at the post graduate level in medical colleges, in a notification released earlier this month.
  • The expert committee was formedto look into the feasibility of entirely doing away with animal use in laboratory experiments for training in post graduate (PG) medical education and switching over to non-animal based modules, as suggested by the ministry of environment, forest and climate change.
  • "The Board of governors regulating medical education is of the view that there are still certain areas of learning and training in medical education where animal experimentation is needed," said Dr VK Paul, chairman, board of governors for the Medical Council of India (MCI).

CBSE Asks Schools to Become Anger-free Zones

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) asked all schools affiliated to it to become 'anger-free zones' where everyone — teachers, parents and administration staff — will try to manage their anger to set an example for children and teach them the value of 'freedom from anger'.
  • As per the board, this would help students become mentally active and emotionally healthy and they would go back home 'charged and happy' and would also want to return the next day.
  • The CBSE, which has issued an advisory to schools on this matter, said that the initiative is part of its thrust on "joyful education and holistic fitness.

Teachers' Posts Vacant in Delhi Govt. Schools

  • A report released by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a think tank associated with the party claimed that 51% posts of permanent teachers were vacant in Delhi government schools compared to 11.1% in the institutions run by the BJP-led municipal corporations in city.
  • The report titled 'Politics of Performance vs Politics of Propaganda – A comparative analysis of education in Delhi govt. school vis-a-vis MCD schools & Kendriya Vidyalayas' listed areas where the Delhi government schools are lagging behind municipal schools and KVs.

All Railways Recruits To Be Inducted Through Upsc

  •  All new recruits in railways will be inducted through the UPSC civil services exams under five specialities, Railway Board Chairman V K Yadav, days after the Cabinet approved the merger of its eight services into one -- the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS).
  • Just like aspirants to the Union Public Service Commission, candidates aspiring to get into railways will have to appear for their prelims after which they will indicate their preference for IRMS under five specialities -- four of them engineering specialities for 'technical' operations comprising of civil, mechanical, telecom and electrical, and one 'non-technical' speciality which will recruit officers for accounts, personnel and traffic.

Eggs In Anganwadis On The Anvil

  • The Madhya Pradesh government is planning to introduce eggs in anganwadis across tribal areas to battle severe malnutrition among children and meet the nutritional needs of lactating mothers and pregnant women.
  • T1 is a correlation between tribal areas in the State and high malnutrition levels. Moreover, tribals have an inclination towards a non-vegetarian diet.

  • Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched the five documents developed by University Grants Commission, UGC covering the 5 verticals of Quality Mandate in New Delhi.
  • These five documents cover evaluation reforms, eco-friendly and sustainable university campuses, human values and professional ethics, faculty induction and academic research integrity.
  • To improve the quality in Higher Educational Institutions, UGC has adopted the Higher Education Quality Improvement Programme Mandate. The quality mandate aims at evolving higher education system to equip country's next-generation with vital skills, knowledge and ethics for leading a rewarding life.
  • Student evaluation plays a crucial role in improving the quality of Higher Education in the country. In order to make student assessment more meaningful, effective and linked to Learning Outcomes, the report 'Evaluation Reforms in Higher Educational Institutions in India' is very timely and beneficial for HEIs.

Telangana Govt. Planning to Introduce Coding in Govt. Schools

  • The Telangana government will launch a pilot programme across 33 schools in the district to introduce coding to government school students in the state.
  • The state's Education Department, the IT and Communications Department and the Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) will carry out the week-long pilot in 33 schools in Wanaparthy district.
  • TITA members have been identified to carry out a practical pilot of this project to assess the challenges that might arise while scaling the programme across the state.
  • After an entry level training programme, school students and a teacher would be trained in Scratch programming, HTML and Python programming languages over five days.
  • This project will expose students to new skills. Introducing coding skills at the school level will inculcate problem-solving skills among students. This will also orient them to entrepreneurial possibilities. We have selected 99 students – 3 each from 33 schools – for this programme.

Show-cause Notice to Calcutta University

  • The Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued a show-cause notice to Calcutta University, Kolkata, after its law department was found to be flouting several rules, including one requiring it to have permanent faculty members to teach law.
  • In a related development, a two-member panel of the BCI also proposed withdrawal of Rajasthan University's power to grant affiliation to law colleges after it was found to be skirting rules and procedures to be followed in permitting institutions to teach law.
