NIXI Announces Launch of its Internet Governance Internship, Capacity Building Scheme

  • The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) announced the launch of its Internet Governance Internship and Capacity Building Scheme, the Ministry of Electronics and IT stated.
  • Launched by S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Chairman of NIXI, the program aims to build awareness and develop expertise in internet governance (IG) among Indian citizens.
  • The Ministry added that the program aims to equip participants with the knowledge to effectively engage in global internet governance processes with I-Star organisations like Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Internet Society or Information Security Operations Center (ISOC), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and collaborate closely with leading experts in the field.

Narendra Modi Distributes Property Cards under SVAMITVA Scheme

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed more than 65 lakh property cards to rural families in more than 50,000 villages across 12 States and Union Territories under the Centre's SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme. He stressed that rural digitisation was now "furthering rural empowerment by leveraging the power of technology and good governance".
  • The SVAMITVA scheme was launched in 2020 to provide 'Record of Rights' to families owning houses in inhabited areas in villages by surveying through a latest drone technology.

Odisha Integrates with Ayushman Bharat

  • Odisha became the 34th state to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), marking a significant advancement in the state's healthcare landscape. This integration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Health Authority (NHA) of the Union Ministry of Health and Odisha's Department of Health and Family Welfare.
  • The AB PM-JAY will operate in conjunction with Odisha's existing Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY). This unified scheme offers a health coverage of ₹5 lakh per family annually, with an additional Rs. 5 lakh specifically for women members. Approximately 1.03 crore families are expected to benefit, with 67.8 lakh families receiving support from the Union Government.
  • Previously, residents of Odisha had access to around 900 empaneled hospitals. With this integration, they can now avail cashless treatment in over 29,000 government and private empaneled hospitals nationwide.

Madhya Pradesh Launches PARTH Yojana Initiative

  • The PARTH Yojana (Police Army Recruitment Training & Hunar) is an innovative scheme launched in Madhya Pradesh with the objective of providing pre-recruitment training to the state's youth for entry into the Indian Army, Police, and Para-Military forces. Announced by CM Mohan Yadav during the State Level Youth Festival, the scheme emphasizes both physical and mental preparation while instilling patriotism and discipline among participants.

Goa's 'Bima Sakhi Yojana'

  • Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant launched the 'Bima Sakhi Yojana' under the state's Swayampurna Goa 2.0 initiative. This program aims to empower women by providing them with training and opportunities to become Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) agents, thereby promoting financial literacy and expanding life insurance coverage at the grassroots level.
  • Women aged 18-70 years who have completed at least Class X are eligible to participate in the scheme.
  • Participants will undergo specialised training to become LIC agents. During this training period, they will receive a stipend of Rs. 7,000 per month in the first year, Rs. 6,000 in the second year, and Rs. 5,000 in the third year, totalling Rs. 2.16 lakh over three years.
  • After completing the training, Bima Sakhis can work as LIC agents and may qualify for development officer roles within LIC, offering further career growth opportunities.

UJALA - 10 Years of Energy-Efficient Lighting

  • The UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in January 2015, completed a decade of impactful service to the nation. This initiative, originally launched as the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP), revolutionised India's domestic lighting sector by providing affordable, energy-efficient LED bulbs, tube lights, and fans to households across the country. It has contributed to not only lowering energy consumption but also reducing carbon emissions, making India a global leader in energy-efficient lighting. The UJALA scheme, along with the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP), has significantly impacted the country's energy efficiency, economic savings, and environmental sustainability.
