New Changes in the Atal Pension Yojana(APY)

The Central government brought a few changes to the Atal Pension Yojana, which was started with the aim of providing pension facilities to those working in the unorganised sector in 2015. And as a result, the Ministry of Finance decided not to allow income taxpayers to apply for the APY scheme. The new order issued by Finance Ministry would come into effect from October 1, 2022. According to the gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, any citizen who is or has been an income tax payer according to the Income Tax Act would not be eligible to join the Atal Pension Yojana.

Union Cabinet Approves Extension of PMAY-Urban Till Dec 31, 2024

The Union Cabinet approved continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) till December, 2024.
Launched in June, 2015, the original deadline for the scheme - Housing for All' Mission - aimed at providing pucca houses to all eligible urban beneficiaries was March 2022.
Based on the request of states and Union territories, the Union Cabinet decided to extend the implementation period of PMAY-Urban till December 31, 2024.

Lok Sabha Passes Bill to Rename the New Delhi International Arbitration Centre as the India Inter...

Lok Sabha passed a Bill to rename the New Delhi International Arbitration Centre as the India International Arbitration Centre. Piloting the New Delhi International Arbitration Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2022, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the objective of the amendment is to have world-class arbitration in the country.
According to the statement of objects and reasons of the Bill, "it is considered imperative to change the name of the Centre from New Delhi International Arbitration Centre to India International Arbitration Centre so that a unique identity of the institute of national importance as conferred on it by law is evident and reflects its true objective".

Lok Sabha Passes Bill to Promote Use of Ethanol, Green Hydrogen & Biomass

Lok Sabha passed a bill seeking to promote the use of non-fossil fuels, including ethanol, green hydrogen and biomass.
The bill is also aimed at helping the country achieve its international commitments with respect to climate change goals.
Among other provisions, it provides for penalties for violations by industrial units or vessels as well as on manufacturers if a vehicle fails to comply with fuel consumption norms.

Bill Introduced in Lok Sabha to Amend Electricity Act

A bill to amend the Electricity Act to allow non-discriminatory open access to distribution networks of power suppliers was introduced in Lok Sabha amid protests by the opposition, which claimed that it seeks to take away certain rights of state governments.
Power Minister R. K. Singh introduced the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 and urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to refer it to a parliamentary standing committee for wider consultations to address concerns raised by the opposition.

Uttar Pradesh Govt. Plans to Double Farmers' Income by Way of 'Panchamrut Yojana'

Uttar Pradesh government announced that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's 'Panchamrut Yojana' would help to achieve the goal of doubling farmers' income through the introduction of cost-effective technical measures and promotion of co-cropping method.
The government has already started taking steps under Panchamrut Yojana to achieve this goal, and would initially select a total of 2028 farmers in the state ahead of the autumn season, to develop model plots so that more and more innovative farmers felt encouraged to join the programme for their own benefit.

Centre Launches State University Research Excellence Scheme to Create Robust Research and Develop...

The government launched State University Research Excellence scheme to augment the research capabilities in a structured way to create a robust R&D ecosystem in state and private universities and colleges, including self-financed institutions working within these universities.
State University Research Excellence (SERB-SURE) is a new innovative scheme of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) that can foster collaboration for high-end research at state and private universities and colleges.
The new scheme will help bring the university system, which was so far mostly limited to teaching, into mainstream research and enable the young faculty there to participate in cutting-edge research
Chairman University Grants Commission, Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, said that this scheme would provide much-needed research opportunities to the faculties of state universities, 45% of which are located in rural areas.

Kerala CM launched Eggs and Milk Scheme for Anganwadi Children

Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a project of the Women and Child Development department. This project helps to provide milk and eggs to children at all Anganwadis in the state in a bid to improve their nutrition levels. The state government has set aside over Rs. 61.5 crore to include milk and eggs in the Anganwadi menu this financial year.
Under this scheme, which is considered as a first in the country, each child would be given 125 ml of milk two days a week for 44 weeks (10 months) and an egg twice a week.
Under this project, four lakh children in the age group of 3-6 from the 33,115 anganwadis of the state would receive eggs and milk twice a week.
The introduction of milk and eggs for Anganwadi children is intended to improve their nutritional parameters and assumes significance as ending hunger is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations.
