  • The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region announced the continuation of the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) with an approved budget of Rs. 8139.50 crore for the period 2022-2023 to 2025-2026. This initiative aims to bolster infrastructure development, particularly in connectivity and social sectors, within the North Eastern States.

Himachal Pradesh Includes Protection of Retaining Walls, other Works under Vidhayak Ksetra Vikas ...

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government decided to relax the provisions of the Vidhayak Ksetra Vikas Nidhi Yojana (VKVNY) during the financial year 2023-24 by including protection works of retaining walls/breast walls and channelisation of nullahs under it.
  • This decision was taken in view of the heavy losses caused to human lives besides public and private properties during the recent heavy rain in the state.
  • According to Sukhu, now legislators can recommend execution of such works under this scheme.

  • Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the scheme will bridge the digital divide and promote digital empowerment in the rural parts of the state.
  • The programme aims to empower rural communities with access to information and opportunities that can transform their lives and drive socio-economic growth.
  • The Gramin Mitra scheme is poised to revolutionise the way public services are delivered in Goa, enabling rural communities to reap the benefits of technology and innovation.
  • Under the initiative, people can request public services by simply calling the dedicated call centre number, which operates from 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week.

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023: New and Repealed Provisions, Drafting Errors and More

  • The Central government introduced three new Bills in the Lok Sabha to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the Indian Evidence Act.
  • These are Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 to replace IPC of 1860, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 to replace CrPC of 1973 and, Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023 to replace the Indian Evidence Act of 1872.
  • The Bills have been referred to a parliamentary standing committee for further examination.

Govt. to Launch Vishwakarma Yojana for Skilled Traditional Craftsmen

  • The Centre is soon launching a special scheme 'Vishwakarma Yojana' for traditional craftsmen and workers, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech.
  • The scheme, which is expected to mainly benefit other backward classes (OBCs), will be launched during Vishwakarma Jayanti on September 17. It will have an initial outlay of Rs. 13,000-15,000 crore.
  • The scheme will benefit individuals skilled in traditional craftsmanship, particularly from the OBC community. Weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, barbers, and their families will be empowered through the Vishwakarma Yojana.

President Grants Assent to Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023

  • The President of India Droupadi Murmu granted assent to the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 (DPDP Bill) after it was passed by both the houses of the parliament.
  • The DPDP bill was passed unanimously by the Rajya Sabha on August 9 while the Lok Sabha passed the bill on August 7 by voice-vote even as opposition leaders opposed it.
  • The Bill aims to manage digital personal data by balancing individuals' right to safeguard their data with the need to lawfully process such data for relevant purposes.
  • The Bill bestows certain rights upon individuals, encompassing the right to access information, request data correction and erasure and seek resolution for grievances.
