Saint Andrew's Day

  •  Saint Andrew's Day is the feast day of Saint Andrew. It is celebrated on 30 November. Saint Andrew's Day (Scots: Saunt Andra's Day, Scottish Gaelic: Là Naomh Anndrais) is Scotland's official national day.
  • It is a national holiday in Romania (since 2015). Saint Andrew is represented in the New Testament to be the disciple who introduced his brother, the Apostle Peter, to Jesus as the Messiah.
  • He is the patron saint of Cyprus, Scotland, Greece, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, San Andres Island (Colombia), Saint Andrew (Barbados) and Tenerife.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

  •  The date of 29 November is observed as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People since 1978. This date, which was chosen because of its meaning and significance to the Palestinian people, is based on the call by the United Nations General Assembly for an annual observance of the resolution on the partition of Palestine. What has become known as the Partition Plan or the Resolution 181 (II), intended to establish an Arab State and a Jewish State, and was adopted on 29 November 1947.
  • The International Day of Solidarity traditionally provides an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people have yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the General Assembly, namely, the right to self-determination without external interference, the right to national independence and sovereignty, and the right to return to their homes and property, from which they have been displaced.

Conference on Info Security

  •  The 10th International Conference on Applications and Techniques in Information Security, the first Indian edition was held from 22-23 November at TIFAC core, SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur. It was jointly organised by SASTRA and Deakin University, Australia.
  • The conference was inaugurated by Prof. V. Kamakoti, Member, National Security Advisory Board, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT-Madras in the presence of Prof. Lynn Batten and Dr. Gang Li from Deakin University, Australia, Prof. A.Umamakeswari, Dean, School of Computing, SASTRA, and Prof. V.S. Shankar Sriram, Associate Dean, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SASTRA.

Celebrating The Constitution

  • They reflected the idealism as well as the pragmatism of the times. The proceedings were a lesson in how to conduct debates with utmost civility. 
  •  On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly ratified the Constitution of India after three years of high-quality deliberations. 
  • The process itself should make Indian citizens proud of their legacy. And so, 70 years ago to the day, India finally had a modern vision for its future.

LBSIM, Delhi, to Celebrate Silver jubilee

  •  Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), Delhi, will celebrate its silver jubilee in the year 2020. 
  • It has been imparting value-based education in management and technology. The institute has been nurturing and grooming business leaders with a global outlook, supported by strategic national and international partnerships. 
  • It has maintained its tryst with social realities by engaging students to develop special plans for improving the quality of life of underprivileged through a dedicated and specially designed social and rural immersion programme at the national level. 

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

  •  International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed on November 25 every year. The 2019 theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is 'Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape'. 
  • Historically, the date is based on the date of the 1960 assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic; the killings were ordered by Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo (1930–1961). In 1981, activists at the Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encuentros marked November 25 as a day to combat and raise awareness of violence against women more broadly; on December 17, 1999, the date received its official United Nations (UN) resolution.

Guwahati to Host Annual Modi-Abe Summit

  •  An interaction at a 19th century colonial riverside bungalow and a cruise on the Brahmaputra are expected to be among the highlights of the annual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe to be held in Guwahati in mid-December 2019.
  • The two sides zeroed in on Guwahati as the venue for the summit, the dates for which are yet to be formally announced, in view of the focus on India's northeastern states under the Act East Forum launched by India and Japan almost two years ago and the considerable development assistance provided to the region by Tokyo.
  • Modi and Abe are expected to cap the two-day summit with a visit to the new Peace Museum in Manipur's capital Imphal, which commemorates one of the fiercest battles of World War 2 in 1944 in which thousands of Japanese soldiers were killed.
