IIM Kozhikode to Set Up India-Japan Study and Research Centre

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode will soon set up a India-Japan Study and Research Centre. The aim of this centre is to enhance the management education and research competencies in the specific areas of mutual interest between both the countries.
This partnership will bring in student exchange programmes with several Japanese Institutes of higher learning.
This will also promote understanding of Japan in India and India in Japan through research, training and other management development programmes.
Prof. Rajib Shaw of Keio University Japan was appointed as Visiting Professor for advice to IIMK on Centre activity from Japan.

First-ever Transgender Birth Certificate Issued to Noor Shekhawat in Rajasthan

Noor Shekhawat became the first transgender person in Rajasthan to be issued a birth certificate with the gender recorded as transgender. In her old birth certificate, her gender was marked as male. Shekhawat was handed her new birth certificate by municipal and state government officials. She runs an NGO for the transgender community and also wants to complete her graduation.
Bhanwarlal Bairwa, Director of Economic and Statistics Department and Chief Registrar (Births and Deaths), issued Rajasthan's first transgender birth certificate to Noor Shekhawat of Jaipur. Bhairwa said that along with the birth records of males and females, the birth records of transgender persons will now be available on the corporation's portal.

NSE Academy, IIM Sirmaur Collaborate to Offer Executive Education Programmes

NSE Academy Limited (NAL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) signed an agreement with IIM Sirmaur to offer joint certification programmes for professionals.
The strategic alliance aims to offer specialised certification courses that cater to the evolving demands of the professional landscape. Under the collaboration, the first joint certification programme titled 'Executive Program in Quantitative Finance and Risk Mitigation', will be offered to working professionals. Further certification programmes will be offered under the domain of finance and allied technologies.

ETS Launches TOEFL Go App to Facilitate Test Takers

The Educational Testing Service (ETS), which conducts the English testing exam— Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) launched an application for test takers to prepare for the new and shorter version of the exam.
The app, TOEFL Go, includes complete TOEFL iBT mock tests, additional practice sets for all four sections, artificial intelligence (AI) powered automated scoring, performance feedback for sections, personalised feedback and tops for speaking and writing responses.
The app is available on both mobile and desktop devices. ETS, which conducts TOEFL and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), announced a series of changes in the English proficiency test last month (June 2023) to create an optimal experience for those taking it. The changes came into effect from July 26.

IIT Madras Develop 'MultiCens' Approach for Human Inter-Organ Communication

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) scientists at the Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (RBC-DSAI) developed a computational approach called 'MultiCens' to understand the interactions between genes that are responsible for inter-organ communication within the body.
Communication among cells in different tissues and organs is pivotal to multicellular life. The molecular basis of such communication has long been studied, but genome-wide screens for genes and other biomolecules mediating tissue-tissue signalling are lacking.
To systematically identify inter-tissue mediators, IIT Madras researchers developed 'MultiCens' (Multilayer/Multi-tissue network Centrality measures). The exchange of information between organs and tissues of the body is critical for the proper functioning and survival of all living organisms.

CISCE Partners with NIEi for 'School Leadership Training Programme'

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is all set to organise the 'School Leadership Training Programme' for principals, headmasters and headmistresses in association with the National Institute of Education International (NIEi), Singapore. This is being conducted at CISCE's East Zone Office in Kolkata from July 24-28, 2023, the training programme is centred around equipping the heads of schools with educational capacities to effectively implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in their respective schools.
CISCE previously hosted the Master Trainers' Programme for Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) from April 26-29, 2023. The four-day training programme, conducted at CISCE's Delhi office, focused on enhancing the teaching skills of trainers and teachers in foundational literacy and numeracy as part of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
These initiatives, the 'School Leadership Training Programme' and the Master Trainers' Programme for FLN, reflect CISCE's proactive approach towards promoting educational excellence and ensuring the effective implementation of critical educational reforms outlined in the NEP 2020. By empowering educational leaders and enhancing teaching skills, CISCE continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of the Indian education system.

University of Strathclyde Offers Scholarships to Indian Students for Engineering

Indian students aiming to start a course in the engineering field can now apply for a scholarship worth £3,000. The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow is offering scholarships for international students who will be joining postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses in academic year 2023-24.

Jamia to Start Medical College, International Campus Soon

The Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Prof. Najma Akhtar announced that the Union Government has granted permission to start a medical college in JMI.
Akhtar also announced that JMI is aiming to open an international campus in Middle East soon.
The institute hosted its Centenary Year Convocation at Vigyan Bhawan. In the ceremony, around 12500 students were awarded degrees and diplomas, including the ones who graduated in the 2019 and 20202. The ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan.
Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan too presided over the convocation.

CBSE Introduces 22 Languages as Mediums of Instruction

In a groundbreaking development, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) expanded its mediums of instruction to include 22 languages, encompassing regional languages and mother tongues, alongside English and Hindi.
This momentous decision, as announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, aims to promote linguistic diversity and provide students with a more inclusive and comprehensive learning experience.
This progressive move aligns with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP), which emphasises the significance of embracing regional languages and mother tongues in the education system.
To support this transformative change, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing appropriate textbooks in the newly introduced languages.
This ensures that students receive quality education across subjects in their chosen medium of instruction.

Punjab to Get 8 Modern, Free UPSC Coaching Centres for Aspirants

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the opening of eight state-of-the-art training centres to provide coaching for aspiring candidates of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations.
Concerned over the declining representation of Punjab's candidates in central services, especially UPSC exams, Mann aims to reverse this trend by offering quality coaching to the state's talented youth.
The proposed centres will aim to prepare candidates for prestigious positions like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), and other important services.
