The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is hosting the 12th edition of the annual Inter-IIT Tech Meet from December 19 to 22, 2023. This is the first fully offline tech meeting since the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year (2023), the event is expected to witness a footfall of nearly 1,000 students across the IITs. They are participating in 13 competitions ranging from product management, quantum computing, game development, mathematics and cybersecurity.
The Inter-IIT Tech Meet is an annual pan-IIT competition, to test the technical skills of IIT students in solving real-world problems which can impact millions of lives. This highly-competitive event puts some of the best minds in the country up against one another as they solve challenging issues faced in the world of robotics, Artificial Intelligence, finance and many other fields, for 2 months, finally culminating in the offline meet.

UGC Warns Edtech Firms Offering Degrees in Association with Foreign Universities
The University Grants Commission (UGC) took a firm stance against edtech companies and colleges that offer degrees in partnership with foreign universities that have not received its approval.
Furthermore, to safeguard their educational pursuits, students are urged to exercise caution and avoid programmes offered by edtech companies or colleges partnered with universities lacking UGC recognition. These degrees will not be valid and may hinder future career prospects.

Central Tribal University to Be Set Up in Telangana
The Parliament passed the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 bill to establish a central tribal university in Telangana. The bill was passed by Rajya Sabha through a voice vote after it was cleared by Lok Sabha. The university will be built at a cost of ₹900 crore. The university is expected to be set up in Mulugu and is named after tribal goddesses Sammakka and Sarakka.
As per the state and objects of the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023, the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University aims to fulfil regional aspirations by enhancing access and quality of higher education in Telangana. The new university is expected to promote higher education and research along with tribal art, culture, customs and technological advancements for the tribal population of India.
OnePlus Announces Scholarship for IIT Madras Students
Global technology brand OnePlus announced a scholarship fund in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The financial scholarship program 'Never Settle' is open to new and existing students at the IIT Madras in the undergraduate (BTech) programme.
Students will be evaluated as per the merit-cum-means eligibility criteria by IIT Madras, which will manage the scholarship review process. The Never Settle Scholarship programme, as per OnePlus, is committed to easing the financial burden of education by offering substantial scholarships to deserving students.

CBSE, British Council Collaborate for School Education Conference
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) collaborated with British Council, the UK's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, organised a landmark School education conference.
This two-day conference was conducted with the aim of exploring and sharing knowledge on innovative teaching methodologies for school education across India. It was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar, Secretary School Education and attended by representatives and policy makers from 300 schools and educational institutions, state and central government and apex body leaders, including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), National Curriculum Framework Committee (NCF) and school boards from across the country.
IIT Kanpur, Kotak Launch 'School of Sustainability'
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) and the Kotak Mahindra Bank launched the Kotak School of Sustainability – India's first fully integrated school of sustainability at IIT Kanpur.
This initiative was taken with the thought that global warming poses a serious threat to our existence, manifesting in untimely natural calamities, pollution, and biodiversity loss.

IIT Kanpur Hosts Inaugural Judgement and Decision Making India Conference
The inaugural Judgement and Decision-Making (JDM) India conference, a historic milestone in decision science, was held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. The event was co-convened by Dr. Arjun Ramakrishnan, a neuroscientist and decision researcher from IIT Kanpur, and convened by Dr. Sumitava Mukherjee, a decision researcher, and behavioural scientist from IIT Delhi.
The JDM field delved into the science of Judgement and Decision-Making, covering fundamental cognitive and neural processes influencing decisions. Discussions spanned applied areas pivotal in various spheres of life, business, and society, encompassing diverse topics such as neuroeconomics, behavioural economics, rationality, perception of risk, artificial intelligence, and algorithmic decisions.
Madhya Pradesh Government to Set up PM College of Excellence in all Districts of the State
Madhya Pradesh government will set up PM College of Excellence in all districts of the state. The decision to this effect was taken at the first Cabinet meeting chaired by new Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in Bhopal.
In Madhya Pradesh, the government will upgrade one college in every district out of total 570 government colleges as "PM College of Excellence". More than Rs. 460 crore will be spent on the development of these colleges.
Apart from this, degree and mark sheets of students in all government and private universities will be uploaded in DigiLocker.
