Lt Gen KJS Dhillon is DG of Defence Intelligence Agency
Former decorated Commander of Srinagar-based 15 Corps Lt Gen Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon was appointed as Director General, Defence Intelligence Agency, and Deputy Chief of Integrating Defence Staff (Intelligence) under the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in the Department of Military Affairs.
The Defence Intelligence Agency is an organisation responsible for providing and coordinating military intelligence for the Indian armed forces. The DIA was created in 2002 on recommendations of a Group of Ministers which looked into lapses leading to the Kargil intrusion in 1999.
Nupur Kulshrestha Becomes Indian Coast Guard's First Woman DIG
Nupur Kulshrestha became the 1st woman to be promoted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Indian Coast Guard. She joined Indian Coast Guard in 1999.
On August 18, 1978 ICG was established by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India as an independent armed force of India & is operated under the Ministry of defence.
It is an armed forces & multi-mission organisation, which conducts real life operations at sea round the year. Maritime zones of India are divided into 5 coast guard regions, namely; North- West, West, East,North-East & Andman & nicobar & are headquartered in Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolakata& Port Blair.

Former Union Law Minister H. R. Bhardwaj Passes Away
Former Law Minister and senior Congress leader Hans Raj Bhardwaj died after a cardiac arrest. He was 83.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death of former Union minister Hans Raj Bhardwaj.
Bhardwaj was a Rajya Sabha member for five terms from April 1982 to June 2009.
He was the law minister for 14 years and served under the prime ministership of Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh. He was appointed the governor of Karnataka in 2009.
It was during Bhardwaj's tenure as law minister that Bofors-accused Ottavio Quattrocchi was given a clean chit by then UPA government in 2009.

Veteran DMK Leader K. Anbhazhagan Passes Away
Veteran DMK leader K. Anbazhagan passed away following a brief illness. He was aged 97.
A nine-time MLA, Anbazhagan, was the party's general secretary for 43 years. He had been staying away from active politics for some time due to illness.
All the DMK programmes were postponed for a week.
Known as Perasiriyar (professor) in the DMK circles, Anbazhagan had served as the Tamil Nadu finance minister and minister of public welfare.

SBI Life Insurance Company Re-appoints Sanjeev Nautiyal as MD & CEO
The Board of Directors of SBI Life Insurance Company re-appointed Sanjeev Nautiyal as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer of the company(CEO) with effect from March 10, 2020 replacing Arijit Basu.
This approval is given by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and members of the Company.
He served as a Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the SBI Life since March 10, 2018.
Bimal Julka New CIC
Information Commissioner Bimal Julka was appointed as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Julka as CIC in the Central Information Commission at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Later, Julka administered the oath of office to Amita Pandove as Information Commissioner.
With her induction, the total number of Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission, including the Chief Information Commissioner, has gone up to seven.
The transparency watchdog was functioning without a chief after Sudhir Bhargava retired on January 11, 2020. It is operating at a reduced strength of six information commissioners, against the sanctioned strength of 10, excluding the CIC.

Former UN Chief Javier Perez de Cuellar Dies
Former UN chief Javier Perez de Cuellar, who led the world body during the Iran-Iraq war and the civil war in El Salvador, died in 2020 in his native Peru.
The Peruvian diplomat served as the fifth Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1981 to 1991.
Antonio Guterres, who currently heads the UN, had wished him "with pride & joy" a happy 100th birthday on January 19.
