South Korea Shows Its US-made F-35 Stealth Jets For 1st Time

  •  South Korea displayed some of its newly purchased U.S.-made F-35 stealth fighter jets for the first time during its Armed Forces Day ceremony, a development that will likely infuriate rival North Korea.
  • Under its biggest-ever weapons purchase, South Korea is to buy 40 F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin by 2021.

Turkey Building Naval Warship for Pakistan

  • Turkey began work on building a naval warship which would be sold to Pakistan as part of a deal signed in 2018.
  • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the announcement during a ceremony to mark the commencement for the construction of the warship named MILGEM.
  • MILGEM vessels are 99 metres long, have a displacement capacity of 24,00 tonnes and a speed of 29 nautical miles.
 

Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile with Major Indigenous Systems Test-Fired Successfully

  • Brahmos supersonic cruise missile featuring Indian propulsion system, airframe, power supply and other major indigenous components, was successfully test-fired.
  • The missile was successfully test-fired from Chandipur in Odisha for its full range of 290-km during the launch jointly conducted by DRDO and BrahMos Aerospace.
  • With this successful mission, the indigenous content in the formidable weapon has reached a high value, thus bolstering India's defence indigenisation and the flagship 'Make in India' programme.
