Indian Army Participates In Border Personnel Meeting Organized by PLA

  •  Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) between the Indian Army and People's Liberation Army was conducted by the People 's Liberation Army (PLA) on 30 October 2019 on the Chinese side at Bum La.
  • The BPM on 30th Oct every year is in vogue since the signing of Border Peace and Tranquility agreement between both the Nations on 07 Sep 1993.
  • In the last 26 years, the BPM mechanism has evolved into a vital platform for resolving local issues and fostering mutual confidence amongst the Border Guarding Troops of both the countries.

Philippine Army Shows Interest To Buy India's BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile

  •  The Philippine Army has shown a keen interest in buying the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, regarded as the world's fastest supersonic missile, in order to strengthen its coastal defences.
  • Major General Reynaldo Aquino, the Vice Commander of the Philippine Army, confirmed this over the weekend while undertaking a tour of the visiting Indian Navy Ship (INS) Sahyadri docked in the country's capital Manila.
  • Philippine Army wants BrahMos missile as its First Land-Based Missile System Battery (1LBMS).

Indo-French joint exercise 'Shakti-2019' to be held in Rajasthan

  •  'Shakti-2019', a bilateral exercise will be conducted between Indian and French Army troops at the Foreign Training Node at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan from October 31 to November 13, 2019.
  • The French Army troops have arrived in India on October 26, 2019 for training with Indian troops.
  • While a contingent of the Sikh Regiment of Sapta Shakti Command will represent Indian Army in this exercise, the French Army delegation will be represented by troops of 21st Marine Infantry Regiment of 6th Armoured Brigade.
  • The joint exercise will focus on counter-terrorism operations in the backdrop of semi-desert terrain under United Nations mandate.

PM celebrates Diwali with soldiers in J&K's Rajouri district

  •  Prime Minister visited Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate Diwali with Army troops guarding the Line of Control. Addressing the soldiers, Mr Modi hailed the valour of the Indian Defence Forces and said they have made it possible for the Central Government to take decisions which were hitherto considered impossible.
  • Mr Modi highlighted the courage and fortitude of the forces in safeguarding national security and thanked them on behalf of the people of the country for their monumental service.
  • Prime Minister said that the increasing number of visitors to the National War Memorial in New Delhi shows the respect accorded by the citizens towards the contributions of armed forces.
  •  Mr Modi listed the steps being taken by the Government to further strengthen and modernize the Indian defence forces.
  • Prime Minister said that the Government is committed to taking steps to ensure the welfare of soldiers.

PM Modi extends greetings to soldiers on Infantry Day

  •  Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to soldiers on Infantry Day, saying infantry personifies diligence and bravery.
  • Infantry Day is observed on October 27 to mark the landing of first Indian troops in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 to push back Pakistan supported intruders.
  • Planes carrying Indian troops took off from the Safdarjung airport to land at Srinagar.

Union Cabinet Approves Cadre Review Of ITBP

  •  The Union Cabinet has approved cadre review of Group A General Duty (Executive) Cadre and Non-Gazetted cadre of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, ITBP.
  • It has also decided to create two new Commands (Western Command at Chandigarh and Eastern Command at Guwahati) to be headed by Additional Director General and assisted by Inspector General.
  • After the creation of these Group A posts in ITBP, the supervisory efficiency and capacity building of the Force will be enhanced.
