US President Joe Biden officially announced that he would seek a second term in the 2024 election. "When I ran for President four years ago, I said we were in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are. The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we will have more freedom or less freedom. More rights or fewer," Biden said in a video announcement.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who is of Indian-American and African-American heritage, would be his running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

Govt. Reveals New Names for Namibian, South African Cheetahs at Kuno Park
In September 2202, PM Modi in his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat', had asked citizens to take part in contests on the MyGov platform to suggest names for the animals.
The MyGov platform received a total of 11,565 submissions suggesting names for reintroduced cheetahs.
The entries were scrutinised by a selection committee and based on the significance and relevance of the suggested names for their conservation and cultural value. The following new names were selected for cheetahs for Namibian and South African cheetah.
Kerala Adopts Water Budget to Tackle Summer Water Shortage
Kerala became the first state to adopt a water budget in a bid to come up with a solution to water scarcity in certain regions there. The first phase of the project would cover 94 gram panchayats and 15 block panchayats.
The Public Water Budget was released by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, along with the launch of the third phase of the Ini Njan Ozhukatte (Let me flow now) project, for the rehabilitation of irrigation networks in the Western Ghats. The idea of a water budget was first mooted by the state in 2019. The current Budget was prepared based on the availability and consumption of water in the state.
The budget gives data about the availability of water at a particular place and its consumption based on the population in the region. The move is intended to create awareness among people regarding the proper use of water, avoiding its wastage. The budget was prepared by the Centre for Water Resource Development Management and the state water department.

CREDAI signs up with building council for 'green' projects
Association to build more than 1,000 Certified Green Projects in the next two years, to construct 4,000 green projects by 2030 via adoption of IGBC Green and Net Zero building ratings
The Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (CREDAI) has entered into a nationwide tie-up with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), with a pledge to build more than 1,000 Certified Green Projects in the next two years and to construct 4,000 green projects by 2030 through adoption of IGBC Green and Net Zero building ratings.
This was announced on the occasion of CREDAI's investiture ceremony which witnessed Boman Irani becoming the new president of CREDAI National for the 2023-25 term.
CREDAI MCHI, too, announced a change in leadership with Dominic Romell becoming the President for the realty body in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
GLOBAL CONFERENCE ON COMPRESSED BIOGAS (CBG) 17th - 18th April 2023
IFGE- CBG Producers Forum is organizing Two Day Global Conference on Compressed Biogas under theme "Towards Progressive Policy Framework for a Robust CBG Foundation and Growth" supported by Ministry for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. The Conference is being held on 17th & 18th April 2023 at Silver Oak, Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi, with the objective to apprise the industry regarding the initiatives taken by Government of India for development of Compressed Biogas Industry and to identify the areas where policy modifications are required.
India is dedicated to achieve net zero target by 2070, there are several initiatives taken by current leadership and government by various means to reduce emission. Compressed Biogas (CBG) has also an important role in emission reduction and it is being promoted by SATAT Scheme (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation). CBG has higher calorific value and properties similar to CNG and can be utilized as alternative green renewable and can replace CNG in automotive, industrial and commercial areas, given the abundance of biomass availability within the country.
The discussion will focus upon the Feedstock availability, CBG Offtake, Fermented Organic Manure, Carbon Credits, Incentives, Investment and Financing for CBG Industry and Biofuel Policies of different States + CBG producers on state policies & international experiences.

Cyclone Ilsa: Powerful Storm Hits Western Australia
A powerful cyclone hit Western Australia as a category five storm, setting a wind speed record but sparing populated areas from major damage.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Ilsa struck the state close to Port Hedland, the world's largest iron ore export hub.
The cyclone is the strongest to hit the region in some 14 years.
Winds of 218km/h were recorded on Bedout Island just off the coast as the storm touched down, setting a preliminary 10-minute sustained wind record for Australia.
The previous record was 194km/h - winds that were recorded when Cyclone George slammed into the country in 2007.
