India Bags Golden and Silver Star At the International 'Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023

  • The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, bagged Golden & Silver Star at the International 'Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023' in 'TV/Cinema Commercials International and Country International' Category at ITB, Berlin 2023.
  • The awards were received by Arvind Singh, Secretary (Tourism) Government of India at ITB, Berlin.
  • The Golden City Gate Tourism Multi-media Awards are given annually in various categories related to the Tourism and Hospitality sectors. The 'Golden City Gate' is a creative multi-media international competition for countries, cities, regions and hotels. The entries received for the awards are judged by an international jury comprising film and tourism experts. The annual award ceremony takes place at ITB Berlin, the world's leading tourism trade show.
  • The promotional films / television commercials, which received the awards were produced by the Ministry as part of its Post Covid Promotional Global Campaign on India reopening. Ministry of Tourism developed the new Incredible India brand films for welcoming of foreign tourists to the country after the pandemic. These brand films were widely circulated within the domestic and international travel industry for wider usage in for promotional and marketing purposes.

Delhi International Airport among Cleanest in Asia-Pacific

  • Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi was ranked among the cleanest airports in Asia-Pacific as a part of Airport Council International (ACI)'s annual service quality award. ACI is a trade association of global airports.
  • The airport service quality award is based on passenger surveys carried out to rate customer satisfaction on the day of travel.
  • The surveys cover over 30 performance indicators across key elements of a passenger's airport experience such as ease of finding your way, check-in, shopping, and dining offerings.
  • While Delhi was ranked among the top airports for cleanliness, none of the Indian airports made it to the winners list in the other new categories.

Indian Railways to Launch Bharat Gaurav Train to North East

  • The Indian Railways (IRCTC) has introduced the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe Tourist Train, which is set to depart from the New Delhi Safrdurjung Railway Station on March 21. The train will complete a North East Circuit, covering Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya, in 15 days.
  • The theme for the North East circuit is "North East Discovery: Beyond Guwahati".
  • The Indian Railways launched the Bharat Gaurav scheme in 2021 to provide a fillip to Indian tourism and attract tourists from all over the world. The Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train launch is in line with the Government of India initiatives "Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat" and "Dekho Apna Desh" to promote domestic tourism.

World's Longest River Cruise 'MV Ganga Vilas' Culminates its Journey in Assam's Dibrugarh

  • Flagged off from Varanasi on January 13 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the world's longest river cruise 'MV Ganga Vilas' culminated its journey on February 28 in Assam's Dibrugarh.
  • A welcome ceremony was organised by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India in Dibrugarh. The event was be graced by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) Sarbananda Sonowal along with other Union Ministers, State Ministers, diplomats and officials of IWAI and MoPSW.
  • The cruise covered a distance of 3,200 km in over 50 days before reaching Dibrugarh on February 28 via Patna Sahib, Bodh Gaya, Vikramshila, Dhaka, the Sundarbans and the Kaziranga National Park.

Karnataka to Get India's First Marina

  • The Karnataka Government will build the country's first Marina or a boat basin offering dockage, at Byndoor in Udupi district to promote coastal tourism in Karnataka.
  • The government will also seek permission from the Centre for the relaxation of coastal regulation zone (CRZ) to take up beach tourism in coastal areas and pilgrim tourism.

J&K Wins Best Adventure Tourism Destination Award

  • The India Today Tourism Survey chose Jammu & Kashmir Tourism for best adventure tourism award. The awards were given away at New Delhi by Union Minister of State for Culture & Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal.
  • The award was given to the J&K Tourism Department in recognition of its efforts in promoting 'Gulmarg' as an adventure destination of international order.
  • The award was received by Deputy Director, Tourism, Alyas Ahmad on behalf of the Department.
  • Ministers from Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, representatives of Tourism Boards of several states and UTs, representatives of national travel trade and business bodies were present on the occasion.
