UN body Lauds Success of Centre's Aspirational Districts Programme

  • The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has lauded the Centre's Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP), saying that it should serve as a "best practice" for other countries where regional disparities in development status persist for many reasons.
  • In a report, the UNDP said, "Overall, ADP is a very successful model of local area development. It is aligned to the principle of "leave no one behind" – the vital core of the SDGs."
  • "Political commitment at the highest level has resulted in rapid success of the programme. It should serve as a best practice for several other countries where regional disparities in development status persist for many reasons," the UNDP said in the report.

CM Himanta Sarma Announces Welfare Schemes for Orphans, Widows

  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a slew of welfare schemes for children who lost their parents to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and women who lost their husbands to the virus.
  • Under the Chief Minister's Sishu Seva scheme, children will receive a fixed deposit of Rs. 781,000 with a monthly interest of Rs. 3,500 till they attain the age of 24. The principal amount of Rs. 781,000 will be credited to the account of the beneficiary. Apart from this, children will also receive a laptop and a skill-based education. Girls of marriageable age will receive Rs. 50,000 and one tola gold under the Arundhati scheme.
  • The Assam government announced the Sishu Seva scheme 10 days on the completion of the seven years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

Surakshit Hum Surakshit Tum Abhiyaan

  • NITI Aayog and Piramal Foundation launched 'Surakshit Hum Surakshit Tum Abhiyaan' to provide home-care support to asymptomatic covid-19 patients or patients with mild symptoms.
  • This campaign was launched in 112 Aspirational Districts to assist district administrations in providing home-care support to COVID-19 patients.
  • It will provide covid home-care support to 20 lakh citizens.
  • It is a part of special initiative in which civil societies, local leaders and volunteers will work with district administrations to address emerging problems across key focus areas of Aspirational Districts Programme.

Delhi Govt. Launches 'Jahan Vote, Wahan Vaccination' Campaign

  • With the aim to vaccinate all people above 45 years against COVID-19 in Delhi within the next four weeks, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched 'Jahan Vote, Wahan Vaccination' campaign.
  • Kejriwal said, "We are starting a 'Jahan Vote, Wahan Vaccination' campaign from today. Under this campaign, we will tell people to visit their designated polling stations to get vaccinated. Our goal is within four weeks if there is no shortage of vaccines, all the people above 45 years of age will be vaccinated in Delhi. The central government is providing vaccine doses for beneficiaries of this age group."

Ladakh Launches YounTab Scheme for Students

  • Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh R. K. Mathur launched the YounTab scheme for students and distributed 12,300 tablets among them virtually in Leh.
  • According to a statement issued by the Ladakh administration, the YounTab scheme is an initiative of the Department of School Education with technical support by the Information Technology Department under which 12,300 tablets with pre-loaded online and offline content, including textbooks, video lectures and online class applications, would be distributed to government school students from Class 6th to 12th.
