Gehlot launches free smartphone scheme in Rajasthan

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday launched the free smartphone scheme for women in the state.
Under the Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojana, the state government will transfer ₹6,800 to the e-wallet of a beneficiary through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) .
The beneficiary, after the completion of their KYC (know your customer) process, can then purchase a mobile phone of their choice in the camps set up by the government. During the event to launch the scheme the CM also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah over the Manipur issue.

Lok Sabha Passes Bill that Seeks to Push Theaterisation

The Lok Sabha passed a bill that seeks to empower the government to notify the setting up of inter-services organisations, including joint services commands, and bestow powers on heads of such organisations to act against personnel from any of the three services to ensure discipline and effective discharge of duties.
The Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Bill, 2023, was passed by the Lower House amid a renewed push for theaterisation, a long-awaited military reform for the best use of the military's resources to fight future wars.
The bill seeks to bestow powers on the commander-in-chief, officer-in-command or any other officer heading a tri-services organisation to take disciplinary and administrative action against personnel under them who are currently governed by the respective laws of the three services - the Army Act, 1950, the Air Force Act, 1950, and the Navy Act, 1957.

MASI Portal for Monitoring CHILD CARE HOMES.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has developed The 'MASI' application for real-time monitoring of Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and their inspection process across the country.
The primary objective behind the development of the Monitoring App for Seamless Inspection (MASI) is to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the inspection mechanism for CCIs as provided under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
The app aims to synchronize the monitoring of the system by various authorities, including Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), State Inspection Committees, District Inspection Committees, Members of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) and State Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCRs).

Lok Sabha Passes National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023

The Delhi services bill, officially known as The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, was passed in the Lok Sabha, resulting in opposition MPs staging a walkout as a protest.
If passed in the Rajya Sabha too, the Delhi services bill will replace an existing ordinance that overrides a Supreme Court order giving the Delhi Government control over most services. The ordinance has been a major flashpoint between Arvind Kejriwal's AAP and the Centre.
The Delhi services bill was passed after a nearly four-hour-long debate which was replied to by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Shah made it clear that the central government has the power to make laws on Union territories and Delhi, being a Union Territory, the Centre enjoys full rights to make rules also.

Odisha Widens Ambit of Social Security Scheme

Odisha Government expanded the coverage of Social Security Scheme to 50 more categories of unorganised workers which include delivery boys, boatmen and photographers, the scheme aims to provide financial assistance in case of accidental or natural death.
The Odisha Government expanded the Social Security Scheme to cover 50 more categories of workers under the purview of Odisha Unorganised Worker's Social Security Board (OUWSSB).
If any registered worker losses his or her life at the workplace then their family members would be entitled with the financial assistance from the government.
Odisha Government also increased the assistance amount provided to the unorganised workers. The state government increased the amount for the families of deceased worker from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh. Similarly, for natural deaths, the assistance amount has been enhanced from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh.
Odisha Unorganised Workers' Social Security Board (OUWSSB) was constituted on December 22, 2011 under the Labor and ESI Department, Odisha with an objective to monitor the activities of registration of unorganised workers as beneficiaries and extension of social security benefits to them. It was reconstituted on August 14, 2019.
