Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, who was next in the line to head the poll panel, has been appointed as vice president for Private Sector Operations and Public-Private Partnerships at the Asian Development Bank. The surprise announcement was made by the regional development bank.
Lavasa would be only the second Election Commissioner to step down from the poll panel before completion of his term. The last time an Election Commissioner put in his papers was in 1973 when Chief Election Commissioner Nagendra Singh was appointed a judge in the International Court of Justice at The Hague.
Lavasa succeeds Diwakar Gupta whose term ends on August 31.
Lavasa was appointed as Election Commissioner in January 2018.
Malini Parthasarathy New Chairperson of The Hindu Group
Malini Parthasarathy took over as the new Chairperson of The Hindu Group of Publications. She replaced N. Ram.
Parthasarathy was the Co-Chairperson of The Hindu Group of Publications also the former Editor of The Hindu (2013-16).
She was earlier Executive Editor of the paper from 1996 to 2004. Parthasarathy has been a political journalist for three decades and more, writing reports and editorials on major themes in Indian politics and on India's foreign policy, with a major focus on relations with Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
She also founded The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy, a think-tank intended to highlight and scrutinise critical public policy and institutional issues of concern in the national arena. The Centre was launched in January 2013 under the auspices of The Hindu group. She was the Director of the Centre at its inception.

Rudrendra Tandon is India's Next Envoy to Afghanistan, Vikram Doraiswami to Move to Dhaka
The Modi government decided to appoint Rudrendra Tandon as the new envoy to Afghanistan and Vikram Doraiswami as High Commissioner to Dhaka.
Tandon, a 1994 batch Indian Foreign Service officer is considered an Afghanistan specialist with stints in Kabul, Jalalabad and has headed Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran desk in the External Affairs Ministry. He is currently the Indian envoy to ASEAN at Jakarta. Tandon replaces Vinay Kumar who has performed admirably with the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan after striking a deal with Taliban insurgents.
Vikram Doraiswami, who is the Additional Secretary incharge of International Organisations and Summits at the foreign ministry, heads to bangladesh capital Dhaka, one of the closest allies of New Delhi. Doraiswami is a 1992 batch officer.
Doraiswami replaces Riva Ganguly Das, the 1986 batch IFS officer, who is likely to take over as Secretary East at the External Affairs Ministry when incumbent Vijai Thakur Singh retires in September 2020.

Veteran Gujarati Writer and Journalist Nagindas Sanghvi Passes Away
Qatari author and Padma Shri awardee Nagindas Sanghvi passed away at the age of 100. He was awarded the Padma Shri in January 2020.
Nagindas Sanghvi was born on March 10, 1920 in Bhavnagar. He did BA within the well-known Shamaldas Faculty in Bhavnagar. He served as a professor in three faculties in Mumbai from 1951 to 1980. Nagindas Sanghvi use to put in writing Tad and Phad Katar for Divyabhaskar.

Elon Musk Becomes World's Seventh Richest Man
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Elon Musk's net worth soared past Warren Buffett as the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla Inc became the seventh richest person in the world.
Musk`s fortune rose by $6.07 billion following a 10.8% jump in the electric carmaker`s stock.
Buffett`s net worth dropped earlier this week when he donated $2.9 billion in Berkshire Hathaway stock to charity.

Baushuan Ger Taiwan's New Ambassador to India
Taiwan named senior diplomat Baushuan Ger as its new representative to India while his predecessor Tien Chung-kwang has been promoted to the post of Deputy Foreign Minister.
Baushuan's appointment was part of personnel changes announced by Taiwan's foreign ministry. Tien served as Taiwan's representative to India for more than seven years.
Baushuan is expected to take up his post in India in September. He is currently director general of the department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs in Taiwan's foreign ministry and has served in the US and the UK.
Tien will replace Hsu Szu-chien as Deputy Foreign Minister. Hsu has been appointed as deputy secretary-general of Taiwan's National Security Council.
Advisory Committee on Mutual Funds under the Chairmanship of Usha Thorat
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities and commodity market in India, has reconstituted the committee advising it on matters related to regulation and development of the mutual fund industry by including five new members.
The new 20 member committee will be chaired by Usha Thorat, former Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The previous 15 members panel that formed in 2013 was headed by Janki Ballabh, former Chairman of SBI.
