Padma Shri Awardee & Sculptor Arjun Prajapati Dies of Covid

Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condoled the demise of Padma Shri awardee sculptor Arjun Prajapati.
Chief Minister Gehlot said Prajapati gave a new identity to the traditional ''Bani-Thani'' form of art and established a different identity for it in the country and abroad.

Soumitra Chatterjee: India Acting Legend Dies, Aged 85

Legendary Indian actor Soumitra Chatterjee, famed for his work with Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray, has died from Covid complications.
He was mourned by fans and critics who avidly followed his six-decade-long career in Bengali language films.
Chatterjee, who starred in more than 300 movies, was also an accomplished playwright, theatre actor and poet.

ED Director S. K. Mishra's Tenure Extended by One Year

The Union government has extended the tenure of ED Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra by a year after modifying his appointment order that was issued in 2018.
Mishra is a 1984-batch Indian Revenue Service officer of the Income Tax cadre and was appointed the Enforcement Directorate chief in November 2018.
His tenure was to end the next week at the ED director's post comes with a fixed term of two years.
The ED is a central investigative agency that enforces two central laws—the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
These laws were enacted to curb money laundering, terror financing, black money and hawala or illegal financial transactions that have cross-border ramifications.

Japanese astrophysicist Masatoshi Koshiba, a co-winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in physics for confirming the existence of elementary particles called neutrinos, passed away at the age of 94. He was a distinguished professor at the University of Tokyo.

Jerry Rawlings Ghana's Former President Dies

Ghana's former President Jerry John Rawlings died at the age of 73.
He led two coups, first in 1979, before twice being elected President in multiparty polls.
A charismatic figure, he first seized power railing against corruption and was responsible for executing several former heads of state for their alleged graft and mismanagement.
He was also seen as a champion of the poor, but came to be criticised for alleged human rights abuses.

Bahrain's Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Passes Away

Bahrain's Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa, the world's longest serving Prime Minister and a staunch ally of neighbouring Saudi Arabia and the United States, passed away at the age of 84.
Sheikh Khalifa was a dominant figure in the Gulf island's politics for much of his near half century in power.
Khalifa, the uncle of King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, had served as Prime Minister since the Sunni Muslim-led island kingdom declared independence from Britain in 1971, almost half a century. The al-Khalifa family has ruled since 1783.
