PM Modi Inaugurate India's 1st Underwater Metro in Kolkata

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first-ever underwater metro section in Kolkata, a landmark project showcasing the nation's stride towards infrastructure development.
  • The underwater service is part of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor, which covers a distance of 16.6 km under the Hooghly River.
  • The metro service will connect Howrah and Salt Lake -- the West Bengal state capital's twin cities. Three out of six stations will be underground.
  • The inauguration of the landmark project comes less than a year after Kolkata Metro, in April 2023, made history by running a train through the underwater tunnel as part of trials, which was a first in India.

Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurates First Made-in-India ASTDS Tug

  • Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of MoPSW & AYUSH, virtually inaugurated the 60T bollard pull tug named 'Ocean Grace' and the Medical Mobile Unit (MMU). The 'Ocean Grace' is the first Make-in-India ASTDS Tug developed by Cochin Shipyard Limited under MoPSW. The MMU is part of the port's commitment to corporate social responsibility.

FSSAI Gives 'Eat Right Station' Certificate to 150 Railway Stations

  • Ensuring access to safe and nutritious food options for millions of rail passengers, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) awarded its prestigious 'Eat Right Station' certification to 150 railway stations.
  • The 'Eat Right Station' certification process involves stringent audits of food vendors, comprehensive training programs for food handlers, and strict adherence to hygiene and sanitation protocols. According to the Health Ministry, stations that successfully meet these criteria are recognised for their efforts in promoting informed food choices and awarded the 'Eat Right Station' certification.
  • In addition to railway stations, six prominent metro stations across the country were also accredited as Eat Right Stations. Notable among them are stations at Noida Sector 51, Esplanade in Kolkata, IIT Kanpur, Botanical Garden in Noida, and Noida Electronic City Metro Station.

PM Modi Launches 1st Made in India Green H2 Fuel Cell Inland Waterway Vessel

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various other projects aimed at making the V. O. Chidambaranar Port as the first Green Hydrogen Hub Port of the country. These projects include desalination plant, hydrogen production and bunkering facility etc.
  • The Prime Minister also launched India's first indigenous green hydrogen fuel cell inland waterway vessel under Harit Nauka initiative.
  • The hydrogen-fuelled electric vessels project is part of India's transformative efforts on the innovative and new technology front on green energy and sustainable cost-effective alternate fuel front. Hydrogen fuel cells can be used in a wide range of applications, including transportation, material handling, stationary, portable, and emergency backup power applications.
