Meghan Markle to Receive 2023 Women of Vision Award

  • The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was named for the 2023 Women of Vision award from Gloria Steinem. The award will be handed out at the Ms Foundation's annual gala on May 16 at New York City's Ziegfeld Ballroom, as part of its 50th-anniversary celebration.
  • Ms Foundation, a Brooklyn-based organization works to bring attention to the real challenges facing women, especially women of colour and low-income women who are living in poverty. The Foundation announced that Meghan Markle will be receiving the award for her "global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls.
  • Not just Meghan Markle, the foundation will also honour Wanda Irving, co-founder of Dr Shalon's Maternal Action Project, and Kimberly Inez McGuire, executive director of URGE, as well as emerging leaders abortion rights activist Olivia Julianna and LGBTQ+ advocate Rebekah Bruesehoff.

Kiran Nadar Conferred with France's Highest Civilian Award

  • Philanthropist and art collector Kiran Nadar was conferred "Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur" (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain.
  • The highest French civilian award came in recognition of Nadar's outstanding contribution in the field of art, her commitment to providing greater access to culture both nationally and internationally, and her leading role in fostering Indo-French cultural ties.
  • Nadar, chairperson of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) — a philanthropic initiative in art — and a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation has played a vital role in advancing Indo-French cultural ties, and artistic cooperation.

  • The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi announced the fellowships, awards, and Gurupuja Puraskaram of the year 2022.
  • Theatre person Gopinath Kozhikode, music director P.S. Vidyadharan, and Chenda/Edakka artist Kalamandalam Unnikrishnan were selected for the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi fellowships for their contribution to the respective fields.
  • There are 17 winners from various fields for the Akademi awards.

Naveen Jindal Honoured with 'Lifetime Achievement Award' by University of Texas

  • Naveen Jindal was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the University of Texas at Dallas for his accomplishments in industry, politics, and education. Jindal had graduated from the University in 1992. This award is the highest recognition given to an alumnus by the University of Texas, Dallas and is presented to those whose contributions have positively impacted society. Aziz Sancar, a Nobel Laureate, was the first person to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Alia Mir, First Woman Wildlife Rescuer in J-K, Honoured with Wildlife Conservation Award

  • Alia Mir, a woman from Jammu and Kashmir was honoured with the Wildlife Conservation Award by the administration for her conservation efforts in the region.
  • J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha facilitated her with the wildlife honour award.
  • Alia is also the first woman from Kashmir who works for the charity Wildlife SOS organisation which is part of the Wildlife Rescue Team.
  • Alia, who is an eminent sociologist, was awarded at the World Forestry Day celebrations organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Collective Forests. She was awarded the award for her achievements in all aspects of wildlife conservation including bear rescue in Kashmir, rescue and release of wild animals, injured animal care, and wildlife.
