Indian-American to Co-lead Biden's First Initiative
While several Indian-Americans, namely Richard Verma, Nisha Biswal, Sonal Shah and Seema Sadanandan, might figure in the new Biden administration to be announced later this month, an Indian-American will play a prominent role right away in the President-elect's first initiative after beating Donald Trump.
Former surgeon-general Vivek Murthy is tipped to co-lead a 12-member group that will join battle with the raging COVID-19 pandemic in the US, which has registered over one lakh positive cases every day.
The "COVID-19 task force" will also be co-led by former food and drug administration commissioner David Kessler and Yale University professor Marcella Nunez-Smith.
Murthy, a registered Democrat, was the Surgeon-General of the United States from 2014 to 2017.
According to reports, Biden has been receiving briefings for months from health experts, including Murthy and Kessler, a former FDA commissioner. Other experts who have briefed Biden include Celine Gounder of New York University and Yale's Marcella Nunez-Smith.
The Biden task force could start holding public briefings from next week till Inauguration Day on January 20.

Yashvardhan Sinha New Chief Information Commissioner
Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha took oath as the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath to Sinha as the CIC at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The post was lying vacant since the retirement of Bimal Julka on August 26.
Sinha will have tenure of about three years as the CIC.

Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha New CIC
Information Commissioner Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha was administered the oath as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Journalist Uday Mahurkar, former Labour Secretary Heera Lal Samariya and former Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General Saroj Punhani were administered the oath as the Information Commissioners by Sinha.
The selection of Sinha, Mahurkar, Samariya and Punhani was done by a three-member committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Besides Modi, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Home Minister Amit Shah are members of the panel.
Sinha joined as the Information Commissioner on January 1, 2019. He has served as India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka.

Court Rejects Request for Arnab Goswami's Police Custody
The Magistrate Court in Alibag, Maharashtra, recorded reasons for rejecting the request for police custody for Republic TV chief Arnab Goswami. The court remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
Mr. Goswami was arrested on November 4 from his residence in Mumbai for allegedly abetting the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik, directors of Concorde Designs Private Limited, for not paying ₹83 lakhs towards the Bombay Dyeing Studio Project.

Actor Faraaz Khan Passes Away
Actor Faraaz Khan, known for starring in movies such as "Fareb" and "Mehndi" in the 1990s, passed away in Bengaluru. He was 46.
The news of his demise was shared by actor-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt on social media.
Khan had marked his debut in Bollywood in 1996 with Vikram Bhatt-directed Fareb.
