SAD Patriarch Parkash Singh Badal Passes Away

  •  Parkash Singh Badal, the former Chief Minister of Punjab and Shiromani Akali Dal patriarch, passed away. He was 95.
  • Mr. Badal, served as Punjab's Chief Minister five times: 1970-71; 1977-80; 1997-2002 and from 2007 to 2017 (two consecutive terms). He led the party as its president from 1995 to 2008. The Government of India awarded him the second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2015.
  • Born on December 8, 1927 in Abul Khurana, near Malout, Mr. Badal graduated from the Forman Christian College in Lahore.
  • In 1970, he became the youngest Chief Minister of an Indian State at the time.
  • Mr. Badal was first elected to the Punjab State Assembly in 1957. He has been elected an MLA nine times since then.

Indian-origin CEO on racial justice advisory board in US

  •  Udai Tambar, an Indian-origin CEO involved in youth development services in the US, is among 15 experts appointed as members of the newly-formed racial justice advisory board in New York City. Tambar, the CEO and President of New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL) was named as a member of the advisory board on implementation of the Racial Justice Charter Amendments, launched last week by Mayor Eric Adams and Mayor's Office of Equity Commissioner Sideya Sherman.
  • The board will help ensure that New York City continues to lead the nation in innovative, racial equity work and carries out the city's newly enshrined charter changes, according to a statement by the Mayor's office.

Cricket GroundGates named after Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara unveiled at Sydney

  • All visiting players will now take the field through the newly-named Lara-Tendulkar Gates, with the duo bestowed with the honour on Monday to coincide with Mr. Tendulkar's 50th birthday.
  • The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG)  used legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's 50th birthday celebrations to unveil gates at the iconic Australia venue that are named after the India legend and fellow cricketing great Brian Lara from West Indies.
  • Mr. Tendulkar's first Test century on Australia shores came at the picturesque Sydney venue and the champion right-hander averaged a whopping 157 from five Test matches at the ground. In 13 international matches at SCG, Mr. Tendulkar has scored 1,100 runs at an average of 100, with four centuries and four fifties and the best score of 241*

Iconic Sharjah stadium stand named after Sachin Tendulkar on his 50th birthday

  •  An iconic Sharjah cricket stadium stand has been renamed after Sachin Tendulkar in a special ceremony in the UAE, honouring the Indian cricket legend on his 50th birthday on April 24.
  • The West Stand at the iconic stadium has been renamed the 'Sachin Tendulkar Stand.' A special ceremony  marked the naming of the stand incidentally around the time the master blaster celebrated his 50th birthday.Not only does it coincide with the Indian batting legend's birthday, but also with the 25th anniversary of his 'Desert Storm' back-to-back centuries against Australia in 1998 to a packed stadium.

Pamela Chopra, Wife of Yash Chopra Passes Away

  • Yash Chopra's wife Pamela Chopra passed away. She was 74 years old. Pamela Chopra was a well-known Indian playback singer. She was also a film writer and producer in her own rights.
  • Pamela Chopra was last seen in the YRF documentary The Romantics where she spoke about her husband Yash Chopra and his journey. The Romantics not only focused on the contributions made by Yash Chopra to the Hindi film industry but also the contributions made by Pamela. On the show, Pamela recounted the days when the director faced many a sleepless night before the release of his first film as a producer (Daag, 1973). Yash also often reached out to his wife to understand how the female perspective works.
  • Pamela married Yash Chopra in 1970.

Telugu Actor Allu Ramesh Passes Away

  • Popular Telugu actor-comedian Allu Ramesh passed away at the age of 52.
  • Allu Ramesh kick-started his career with theatre. He made his debut in Tollywood with the movie titled 'Chirujallu' and went on to star in almost 50 films. Some of his notable works include 'Tolu Bommalata,' 'Mathura Wines,' 'Veedhi,' 'Blade Babji,' 'Napoleon' and 'Kerintha'.

National Award-winning Actress Uttara Baokar Passes Away

  • Veteran film and television actress Uttara Baokar passed away. She was also a theatre artist.
  • Uttara Baokar studied acting at the National School of Drama (NSD). She has played various roles in different plays such as Padmavati in Mukyhamantri, Mena in Mena Gurjari, Desdemona in Shakespeare's Othello, mother in playwright Girish Karnad's Tughlaq, among others.
  • In 1984, she won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, India's National Academy for Acting. She also appeared in Marathi films like Doghi (1995) with Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Renuka Daftardar, Uttarayan (2005), Shevri (2006) and Restaurant (2006), with Sonali Kulkarni. She came in the limelight following her role in Govind Nihlani's movie Tamas.
  • The veteran actress has appeared in popular TV shows like Udaan, Antaral, X Zone, Rishtey Kora Kaagaz, Nazarana, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Kashmakash Zindagi Ki and Jabb Love Hua.

  • President of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Rabe Hasni Nadvi died in Lucknow.
  • Maulana Rabe has always worked for unity and peace among all sections of the society and as Islamic scholar he has given immense contribution as academician and writer.
  • Nadvi has been the president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board for the last 21 years.
