MiG-29 'Black Panthers', Primary Fighter Jets to Operate from India Navy's Vikrant

  • The Indian Navy commissioned the first-ever India-made naval air carrier INS Vikrant in the service, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an induction ceremony held in Kochi, Kerala. The INS Vikrant is only the second active naval aircraft carrier with the Indian Navy and also the first indigenous carrier built under the PM Modi's ambitious 'Make-in-India' campaign. The INS Vikrant is made to house 35 aircrafts. While India is in the process of induction either of the Boeing F-18 Super Hornet or Dassault Rafale M, for now, it will operate with the Russia-made Black Panthers.
  • The Russian-made 'Black Panthers', a naval version of the MiG-29 fighter, would be the primary fighters of INS Vikrant, the largest ship ever built in India. The aircraft has been in service with the Indian Air Force for decades.
  • The naval MiG-29 jet, called MiG-29K, will operate from INS Vikrant in anti-air, anti-surface, and land attack roles.

Sarabjit Singh Takes Over Command of Air Force Station Jalahalli

  • Air Commodore Sarabjit Singh took over the command of Air Force Station Jalahalli from Air Commodore Nand Kumar Nair.
  • The Air Officer was commissioned into the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) branch on October 6, 1992. He is an alumnus of Air Force Technical College, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and College of Air Warfare, Secunderabad.
  • The Air Officer is a postgraduate in Software Systems, Defence & Strategic Studies and Human Resource Management.
  • In his 30 years of service, he has held various field and staff positions which included Engineering Officer and Senior Technical Officer in Radar units, Chief Engineering Officer in Foreign mission, Joint Director at Directorate of Personnel (Officers), and Director Computer Intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance at Air Headquarters.

Cabinet Committee on Security Approves Tejas Mark-2 Project

  • The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved Tejas Mark-2 Project. The CCS sanctioned Rs. 6,500 crore for designing and developing of Tejas Mark-2 fighter jet with prototypes, flight testing, and certification. The allocation came in addition to the existing Rs. 2,500 crore sanctioned to HAL.
  • The advanced version of Tejas LCA will feature a series of additions to its flight and fight capabilities. Tejas 2.0 will be equipped with more powerful GE- F414 engines in the 98 Kilonewton thrust class, which will allow it to extend its flight range and carry additional payload and weapons as compared to the existing version.

PM Modi Commissions INS Vikrant

  • PM Modi commissioned INS Vikrant, the country's first indigenously built aircraft carrier at the Cochin Shipyard. The Prime Minister said that he dedicated INS Vikrant to Chhatrapathi Shivaji.
  • INS Vikrant is the largest ship ever built in India's maritime history at a cost of Rs. 20,000 crore.
  • Modi also unveiled the Indian Navy's new ensign which dropped the St George's Cross and incorporated the royal seal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

HM Amit Shah Launches "CAPF eAwas" Web-portal in New Delhi

  • Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Central Armed Police Forces' eAwas web-portal in New Delhi today. Ministry of Home Affairs said, increasing the Housing Satisfaction Ratio for CAPFs personnel is one of the priority areas of the Government.
  • In order to operationalise the revised policy of allotment and to also bring transparency to the allotment process, a common web-portal 'CAPF eAwas' has been developed. The web-portal will enable online registration and allotment of residential quarters to eligible personnel of CAPFs and Assam Rifles.

Coast Guard Holds 10th Edition of Search, Rescue Exercise off Chennai Coast

  • The Coast Guard held a national maritime search and rescue exercise off Chennai coast. The exercise is the 10th edition of the Coast Guard that is being organised by the National Maritime Search and Rescue Board. A total of 24 observers from 16 foreign nations took part in the exercise in the Bay of Bengal. The theme of the 10th edition was 'Capacity Building Towards Marine Passenger Safety'.
  • The two-day exercise, which was be conducted under the aegis of the National Maritime Search and Rescue Board (NMSARB), is hosted by the Indian Coast Guard as the nodal maritime SAR coordinating agency for the Indian Search and Rescue Region (ISRR). In addition to 51 participants from national maritime SAR stakeholders, the exercise will be attended by 24 foreign observers from 16 friendly foreign countries.
