Samoa's Darius Visser Breaks T20I Record

Darius Visser hit 39 runs in a single over to set a men's T20 International record and help Samoa to a 10-run victory over Vanuatu in a 2026 World Cup regional qualifier in the capital city of Apia.
Visser, who scored 132 off 62 balls, was on 46 when Vanuatu's Nalin Nipiko stepped up to bowl the 15th over, in which the Samoa batter cleared the ropes on six occasions and faced three no balls.
Nipiko bowled a dot ball for the fifth delivery of the over but followed it up with two no balls, with 28-year-old Visser hitting the second of them for a six.
Visser finished with 14 sixes and five fours.

ICC Changes 2024 Women's T20 World Cup Venue from Bangladesh to UAE

The International Cricket Council (ICC) changed the venue of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The decision came amid unrest and ousting of the government in Bangladesh. The tournament, however, is scheduled to be played on original dates from October 3-20.
The tournament will be hosted across two venues: Sharjah and Dubai, announced the ICC. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), meanwhile, will continue to host the event in the UAE.

India's Participation in the 2024 Paris Paralympics

India named 84 athletes to compete at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, which is scheduled to be held from August 28 to September 8. The contingent is India's largest ever sent to the Paralympic Games. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, India had sent 54 athletes, which included 14 women. At the Paris Paralympics, however, that number has grown to 84 overall with 32 women included in the Indian contingent, as per Olympics.com. India will compete in three new sports - para-cycling, para-rowing and blind judo - at the Paris Paralympics, extending the country's participation to 12 sports. Overall, 22 sports will be held at Paris 2024.
Sumit Antil, a para-athlete, has been chosen as one of India's flag bearers for the opening ceremony. Antil's selection came on the heels of his outstanding performance at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, where he clinched a gold medal in the javelin throw in the men's F64 category. His achievement is further amplified by the fact that he currently holds the world record in this category.
Joining Antil as co-flag bearer is Bhagyashri Jadhav. Jadhav has made her mark in the para-athletics world with impressive performances in shot put. Her accolades include:
A silver medal in the women's shot put event (F34 category) at the Asian Para Games
Another silver medal in the same category at the World Para Athletics Championships in May 2024
The International Paralympics Committee is responsible for organising both the Summer and Winter Paralympics games. Since the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, it has become a tradition to hold the Paralympics shortly after the Olympic Games.

Premier League: Manchester City's Phil Foden Wins PFA Player of the Year Award

Manchester City forward Phil Foden won the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award.
Foden played a key role in City winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title last term.
He scored 19 times and delivered eight assists for Pep Guardiola's team as they pipped Arsenal to the title on the last day of the season.

Jannik Sinner Wins ATP Cincinnati Open

World number one Jannik Sinner lifted his third ATP Masters trophy as the world number one beat Frances Tiafoe 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 and won the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio, the US.
Cincinnati is the fifth trophy of 2024 for the 23-year-old Italian, who began the season with an Australian Open crown in Melbourne.

Nothing Changes for R. Praggnanandhaa

Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa could not really change his fortunes for the better and remained in the last spot going into the final day of the Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz chess tournament in the US. Praggnanandhaa scored two wins at the expense of pre-event favourites Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia and Hikaru Nakamura of Russia besides a lone draw with tournament leader Alireza Firouzja of France but lost the remaining six games in the first leg of blitz.

Vinesh's Petition Dismissed by CAS

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the petition from wrestler Vinesh Phogat to be awarded a joint silver medal at the Paris Olympics. This move came just a day after the CAS had bought itself more time to decide the fate of Vinesh Phogat's silver medal.
After she was heartbreakingly disqualified from competing in the final of the 50kg weight class for being 100 grams over the permissible limit, Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from sport. But not before deciding to fight for her medal, this time in the court: assisted by the Indian Olympic Association, Vinesh Phogat knocked on the doors of the CAS to be awarded a shared silver medal.

Morne Morkel India's New Bowling Coach

Morne Morkel, former South Africa speedster, was appointed as India's men's cricket team's bowling coach. Morkel's appointment completes trio suggested by the new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Morkel, after having been Gambhir's teammate at the Indian Premier League franchisee Kolkata Knight Riders, was roped in as the bowling coach by Lucknow Super Giants during Gambhir's stint as the mentor.
Besides his experience as bowling coach in franchise cricket across the globe, Morkel also worked as the bowling coach of Pakistan men's team during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

Zeeshan Ali Resigns as India's Davis Cup Coach

Zeeshan Ali announced his resignation as India coach, insisting that it was time to focus on the development of the National Tennis Centre (NTC). Zeeshan had replaced Nandan Bal as India's Davis Cup coach in 2013 when the country's top players had revolted against AITA, demanding better playing conditions, and refused to play against South Korea in New Delhi.
Zeeshan captained the country in the historic tie against Pakistan, which India won in Islamabad early this year (2024) with regular skipper Rohit Rajpal missing the assignment due to personal reasons.
During his tenure, Zeeshan worked with S. P. Mishra, Mahesh Bhupathi, Anand Amritraj and current captain Rohit Rajpal.

The league will feature the following six teams, each representing different regions of India: Awadh Lions, Northern Challengers, Rajasthan Kings, Mumbai Marines, Southern Spartans and Bengal Rhinos.
