Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy Inaugurates Five New Galleries at Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad

  • Indian Sculpture Gallery: Featuring nearly 40 artifacts, some dating back to the 2nd Century B.C., including a fragment from Bharhut with a lotus medallion and the Kakatiya period's 'Anantsayana Vishnu.'
  • Bidriware Gallery: Showcasing 300 unique objects, including exquisite 'huqqa' bases and ewers.
  • Lamp and Chandelier Gallery: Displaying 180 antique objects from around the globe.
  • European Bronze Gallery: Housing over 100 bronze statues.
  • European Marble Gallery: Featuring 50 outstanding marble sculptures.
  • These galleries not only enrich the museum's repertoire but also offer visitors a captivating journey through the diverse realms of Indian and global artistry.

  • The colossal structure, named the 'Statue of Social Justice,' stands at an impressive height of 206 feet, making it one of the top 50 tallest statues globally, with Sardar Vallabhai Patel's 'Statue of Unity' claiming the top spot.

Arunachal Pradesh's Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival

  • The 9th edition of the Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival (PPHF), a state festival of Arunachal Pradesh, will take place at Seijosa in the Pakke Kessang district from January 18-20, 2024.
  • The festival focuses on wildlife conservation, with a particular emphasis on hornbills. Four species of the birds — Wreathed, Great Indian, Oriental Pied and the endangered Rufous-necked — are found in the Pakke Tiger Reserve (PTR) of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • The first-ever PPHF was held in January 2015. The aim was to recognise the role played by the Nyishi, the largest tribal group in Arunachal Pradesh, in conserving hornbills in PTR.

International Camel Festival Kicked Off in Bikaner, Rajasthan

  • The three-day International Camel Festival was held with great fervour in the culturally rich district of Bikaner, Rajasthan. The festival commenced with an enthralling Heritage Walk, setting the stage for a celebration of folk culture that captivated both domestic and foreign tourists.
  • The Heritage Walk, starting from Rampuriya Haveli, saw the enthusiastic participation of folk artists, adding a touch of authenticity to the cultural fiesta. Local folk artists mesmerised the onlookers with traditional songs, Rammats, and captivating dances, offering a glimpse into the rich local culture.
  • Bikaji ki Tekri was the hub of creativity with competitions organised by the Tourism Department. The Tourism Department added to the excitement by rewarding the winners with mementos, encouraging a spirit of healthy competition and artistic expression.

Ganga Sagar Mela 2024: India's Second Largest Fair

  • The Gangasagar Mela stands as a testament to the vibrant cultural and spiritual tapestry of India. Held annually in Sagardwip, West Bengal, this magnificent fair has earned the distinction of being the second most popular mela in the country, surpassed only by the revered Kumbh Mela. The festival draws a massive influx of devotees who converge to partake in rituals, seek spiritual purification, and celebrate with immense fervour.
  • The Gangasagar Mela aligns with the celebration of Makar Sankranti, observed on either the 14th or 15th of January each year. This auspicious day adds to the festive atmosphere, amplifying the cultural and religious importance of the gathering.
  • Situated just off the Bengal coast, Sagardwip is an island of exceptional beauty and religious significance. The confluence of the Ganga River and the Bay of Bengal imparts a unique spiritual charm to this location.
