IIT-Roorkee, Rekhi Foundation to Jointly Establish Centre for Science of Happiness
The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a dedicated 'Centre for the Science of Happiness' at IIT Roorkee campus.
The Centre will focus on developing and delivering courses on the Science of Happiness, empowering students to lead lives enriched with positivity, emotional resilience, and purpose. It will also provide resources for hands-on learning through a dedicated Mind Lab, equipped with modern tools to foster practical understanding.
Ryan International, CM RISE, Kalvi International Bag World's Best School Prizes
Three schools from India were awarded the title of World's Best School Prizes 2024. This marks a breakthrough year, with Ryan International School in Delhi, CM RISE School Vinoba in Madhya Pradesh, and Kalvi International Public School in Tamil Nadu emerging victorious in different prize categories.
Each of these schools earned accolades for its unique approach to education, innovation, and community engagement.
Delhi's Ryan International School received the World's Best School Prize for Environmental Action.
Madhya Pradesh's CM RISE School Vinoba clinched the title in the Innovation category.
In the Community Choice Award category, Kalvi International Public School in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, emerged victorious, chosen from a shortlist of 50 schools.

IIM Shillong and SIDBI Collaborate to Foster Northeast Entrepreneurship
In a step to bolster entrepreneurship in India's Northeast, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong partnered with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). Through its IIM Shillong Foundation for Incubation and Enterprise (IIMSFIE), this collaboration introduces a structured entrepreneurship training and incubation programme.
Skill to Enterprise Model (STEM): This model aims to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with skills, knowledge, and mentorship essential for sustainable business creation.
18-Month Training: Targeting 30 selected participants, the programme includes classroom learning, hands-on experience, and extensive incubation support.

JNU Professor Mazhar Asif New Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia
President Droupadi Murmu appointed Prof Mazhar Asif as Jamia Millia Islamia's Vice-Chancellor, as per an official notification by the Ministry of Education.
The move came nearly a year after JMI's former V-C Najma Akhtar completed her tenure and vacated the seat. Akhtar's tenure ended on November 12, 2023.
Mazhar is a professor at the Centre of Persian and Central Asian Studies at JNU's School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies. Some of his administrative-level responsibilities include being a member of the drafting committee for the National Education Policy and of the National Monitoring Committee for Education, MHRD.

WHO Declares Egypt Malaria-Free
Egypt reached a significant public health milestone by being officially declared 'malaria-free' by the World Health Organisation (WHO). This achievement makes Egypt the second country in the world to receive this certification in 2024, following Cabo Verde.
Egypt is the third country in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region to receive malaria-free certification, joining the United Arab Emirates (2007) and Morocco (2010).
This milestone was achieved after 14 years in the region, marking a significant victory against a disease that has plagued Egypt since ancient times.
IIT-Madras to Host Academia-industry Supported AR, VR and Mixed Reality Summit
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras's eXperiential Technology Innovation Centre (XTIC) will host academia-industry supported 'eXtended Reality' (XR) summit. The event will be held on November 16 and 17 at the campus. The summit is also open for researchers who are working in segments like augmented reality virtual reality and mixed reality.
The IIT Madras summit is crucial to evaluate the current landscape of experiential technologies and address the existing skill gaps to ensure sustainable growth and innovation, claimed the press release.
This summit will also feature collaboration with 'AWE' (Augmented World Expo), a premier global VR/AR event since 2010 that has been a community of professionals, innovators, and creators in XR. This year, XTIC will host an exclusive 'AWE Evening' during the summit, laying the groundwork for a full-fledged AWE event in India by 2026.
