World Television Day

  • World Television Day is observed on November 21 to highlight the daily value of television that it plays in communication and globalisation.
  • On 21 November and 22 November, 1996, the U.N. held the first World Television Forum. It provides a platform and allowed the media to discuss the importance of TV in delivering information and also how it participating in the changing world. It is the single largest source of video consumption.
  • Therefore, UN General Assembly on 17 December 1996 through resolution 51/205 established 21 November as World Television Day to commemorate the date on which World Television Forum was held.

World Fisheries Day

  • World Fisheries Day is celebrated on November 21 every year throughout the world by the fisherfolk communities. It highlights the importance of healthy oceans ecosystems and to ensure sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world. 2020 is the fourth World Fisheries Day.
  • The World Fisheries Day helps in highlighting the critical importance to human lives, of water and the lives it sustains, both in and out of water. Water forms a continuum, whether contained in rivers, lakes, and ocean. Fishing communities worldwide celebrate this day through rallies, workshops, public meetings, cultural programs, dramas, exhibition, music show, and demonstrations to highlight the importance of maintaining the world's fisheries.

International Children's Day

  • World Children's Day is observed annually on November 20 to commemorate the day of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the UN General Assembly on the same day in 1959. The day is celebrated globally to promote the rights of children besides improving their standard of living. It also promotes international togetherness and raises awareness among children to improve their welfare.
  • Though Children's Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries, International Children's Day is a global observance that is marked on November 20.

International Men's Day

  • November 19 is International Men's Day (IMD).
  • The day honours the positive contributions that men make to the world, their households, and their societies. The day also promotes positive role models and spreads awareness about men's wellness.
  • Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh established IMD in 1999. He taught history at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. In honour of his father's birthday, Teelucksingh chose November 19. He encouraged people to use this day to convey issues that affect boys and men.
  • There are six pillars of International Men's Day, and one of them focuses on improving gender relations and promoting gender equality for men and women alike. "Better relations between men and women" is the theme for International Men's Day 2021.

National Integration Day

  • National Integration Day is a day for promoting peace, unity, and integration between all of the different segments of society living in India. Indira Gandhi's birthday was chosen as a day to celebrate as she is seen as somebody who embodies the good intentions of the holiday.
  • Gandhi became India's first female Prime Minister in 1966 and stayed in the role for 11 years. She played a major role in strengthening democratic structure and tradition in the country. She won the war with Pakistan in 1971 and signed a subsequent peace treaty.
  • After losing her battle for reelection in 1977 she was ousted from her role as Prime Minister, only to be voted back in again in 1980. Gandhi was assassinated in 1984 by two of her own bodyguards at her home in New Delhi.
  • National Integration Day was created in her honor as a way to encourage all Indians to integrate, regardless of race or religion.

Naturopathy Day

  • The National Naturopathy Day is observed in India on November 18 every year, to promote positive mental and physical health through drugless system of medicine, called as Naturopathy.
  • The day was declared by the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Government of India, on November 18, 2018.
  • It was on this day in 1945, when Mahatma Gandhi became life time Chairman of the All India Nature Cure Foundation Trust and signed the deed with the object of making the benefits of Nature Cure available to all classes of people.

21st Indian Ocean Rim Association Annual Council of Ministers' Meeting Held in Dhaka

  • India virtually participated in the 21st Annual Council of Ministers (COM) meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) led by Minister of State External Affairs (MoS), Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh. The IORA COM was held in a hybrid format in Dhaka and Dhaka Communique was adopted at the end of the meeting.
  • MoS, in his remarks, reaffirmed India's strong commitment to strengthening IORA, the largest and pre-eminent organization in the Indian Ocean Region, to promote peace, security and prosperity in the region as well as in the wider Indo-Pacific.
  • MoS congratulated Bangladesh for assuming the Chairship of IORA. He welcomed the Russian Federation as the new Dialogue Partner of IORA. He also congratulated Ambassador Salman Al-Farisi for being selected as the next Secretary-General (SG) of IORA and expressed hope that a full time SG would help impart fresh energy and vision to the organization.

World Philosophy Day

  • World Philosophy Day is celebrated on the third Thursday of November each year. In 2021, the day fell on 18 November. World Philosophy Day 2021 opens the discussion on the different interactions of human beings with their social, cultural, geographical and political environment, with the underlying objective of better understanding the contribution of philosophy in our contemporary societies and the challenges they face, pandemic in particular.
  • World Philosophy Day was introduced in 2002 by UNESCO. In 2005 the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed that World Philosophy Day would be celebrated every third Thursday of November.

International Students Day

  • International Students' Day is an international observance of the student community, held annually on November 17. Originally commemorating the Czech universities which were stormed by Nazis in 1939 and the students who were subsequently killed and sent to concentration camps, it is now marked by a number of universities, sometimes on a day other than November 17, as a nonpolitical celebration of the multiculturalism of their international students.

National Epilepsy Day

  • November 17 is observed as National Epilepsy Day in India. The day aims at spreading awareness about the disease. Epilepsy is a medical condition where brain suffers from untimely seizures and fits.
  • As described by WHO, Epilepsy is a "chronic non-communicable disease of the brain which is characterized by recurrent seizures".
  • On this special day at various places seminars and stage events are organized to make people aware of the disease and its treatment. Several hospitals with the support of the Epilepsy Foundation of India organize camps for free consultation, detection, and treatment of the disease.
