Noted Kannada poet KS Nissar Ahmed dies at 84

Well known Kannada poet K Sheikh Haider Nissar Ahmed died in Bangalore at the age of 84 after a bout of illness. Nissar Ahmed was a winner of Padma Shri, Sahitya academy award, Karnataka Rajyotsava award as well as Pampa and Nadoja awards apart from several others.
Ahmed was considered a key pillar of the Navya movement in Kannada literature. While he is known for his several notable works like Manasu Gandhi Bazaru, Mandondige Mathukathe, Sanje Idare Mele and various other offerings, it was Nithyothasava a poetry collection he released in 1974 which brought him eternal fame.

Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi, a Judicial Member of Lokpal of India, Dies Aged 63

Justice Tripathi, a former Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, breathed his last at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre. He was 62.
Justice Tripathi had also served as an Additional Advocate General in Bihar. Later, he was elevated as Additional Judge of the Patna High Court and later the Chief Justice. He was appointed the Judicial Member of the Lokpal on March 23 last year (2019).

Noted Playwright Bijay Mishra Passed Away

Noted playwright, dramatist, scriptwriter and film director Bijay Mishra of Odisha passed away at the age of 83 due to age-related ailments in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He was born at Santaragadia village in Balasore district, Odisha on July 16, 1936.
Mishra began playwright from 1960 and his first play 'Janani' was staged in Annapurna Theatre, Cuttack, Odisha. He was also a mainstream script writer in Odia Cinema & TV Industry.

Algerian Singer Hamid Cheriet - Idir - dies in France at 70

Algerian singer Hamid Cheriet, better known as Idir, has died in France at the age of 70.
The tireless champion of the Kabyle and Berber cultures died of pulmonary disease.
Idir became internationally famous with his lullaby "Vava Inouva" in the 1970s and made a comeback in 1993.
In a tribute to the singer, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called him an icon of Algerian art and said: "Algeria loses one of its monuments".

Ramesh Babu Appointed As NTPC Director Operations

State-owned power giant NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) appointed Ramesh Babu V as director (operations). He was the successor of Prakash Tiwari who retired on April 30, 2020.
He joined NTPC as an executive (trainee – 12th batch) in 1987 and has more than 32 years of experience in managing large power stations in the areas of operations and maintenance, renovation and modernisation of old units as well as in the domains of efficiency & systems improvement of thermal plants.

Giridhar Aramane Assumed Charge as Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

Shri. Giridhar Aramane assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Shri Aramane was earlier serving as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. He has also been a Jt Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas during 2012-14.
He is 1988 batch IAS officer of AP cadre. An M Tech in Civil Egg from IIT Madras, he also holds a Masters Degree in Economics.

Kulmeet Makkar, Producers Guild of India CEO, dies at 60

Kulmeet Makkar, CEO, Producers Guild of India (PGI), died. He was 60.
Makkar suffered a massive heart attack and passed away in Dharamsala. Many from the film industry including filmmakers Karan Johar, Ashoke Pandit, Subhash Ghai and actor Sanjay Suri among others paid tributes to Makkar on social media.

Ajay Tirkey Assumes Charge as Secretary of WCD Ministry

Mr. Ajay Tirkey, an Indian administrative Service officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre belonging to 1987 batch, assumed charge as Secretary in Ministry of Women and Child Development. He succeeds Rabindra Panwar.
Before assuming the charge of Secretary, Shri Ajay Tirkey was holding the post of Special Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry. He also worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy in the Ministry of Human Resource Development. He has also worked in Ministry of Defence as Director and Joint Secretary from 2004 to 2009.

Delhi Historian RV Smith Passed Away

Noted author, historian and chronicler of Delhi, R.V. Smith, passed away.
Smith wrote extensively for many leading publications, including Outlook, on Delhi's intricate history tucked in old markets, streets and historical ruins.
The 'True Chronicler of Delhi' was the recipient of the Canon Holland Prize and the Rotary Award for general knowledge and journalism award (1997-98) from the Michael Madhusudan Academy.
Two of his noted books on the national capital are 'Delhi: Unknown Tales of a City' and 'The Delhi that No-one Knows'.

Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen dies aged 79

Pioneering Nigerian drummer Tony Allen, a co-founder of the afrobeat musical genre, died in Paris.
Allen was the drummer and musical director of musician Fela Kuti's famous band Africa '70 in the 1960-70s.
Fela, as he was widely known, died in 1997. He once said that "without Tony Allen, there would be no afrobeat".

Chuni Goswami, Legendary Football Captain and Bengal Cricketer, Dies at 82

Former India footballer Subimal "Chuni" Goswami, who captained the 1962 Asian Games gold-winning team, died in Kolkata after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Goswami was among the rare sportsmen who played more than one sport at the highest levels; not only was he among India's greatest ever footballers, he played first-class cricket for Bengal and captained them to the final of the Ranji Trophy in 1971-72.

T. S. Tirumurti appointed as Ambassador/Permanent Representative of India to UN

T. S. Tirumurti has been appointed as the next Ambassador or Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations.
Tirumurti is an IFS officer of 1985 batch. He replaces Sayyad Akbaruddin.

Freedom fighter, Gandhian Hema Bharali dies

Freedom fighter and Gandhian Hema Bharali, known for her efforts to uplift the condition of women and empower the marginalised sections of society, died at her residence.
Born on February 19, 1919, Bharali had received the Padma Shri in 2005.
In 2006, she was awarded the National Communal Harmony Award by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony under the Ministry of Home Affairs. She also received the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Award for National Integration from the Assam government.

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor dies in Mumbai

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor died after a two-year-long battle with cancer.
He was part of hit films such as Bobby, Amar Akbar Anthony, Laila Majnu, Rafoo Chakkar , Sargam, Karz, Prem Rog, Chandni, Heena, Karz, Bol Radha Bol, Saagar and others.
