Rahul Shrivastava India's Next Ambassador to Romania

  • The government appointed Rahul Shrivastava as the next Ambassador of India to Romania.
  • Presently, he is posted as the joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and shall take up the assignment shortly. Prior to joining the Ministry in 2018, he was the Ambassador to Venezuela from 2016-2018.

Adidas Appoints Manushi Chhillar as Brand Ambassador

  • Miss World 2017 winner Manushi Chhillar has joined the league of star cricketer Rohit Sharma, sprint sensation Hima Das and Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as brand ambassador of the Indian arm of German sports brand Adidas.
  • The footwear giant said that Chillar will lead Adidas's mission to inspire more women to embrace fitness.

DLF's K. P. Singh Retires

  • Kushal Pal Singh, the face of India's largest listed real estate firm DLF, stepped down from the chairmanship of the company at the age of 90. He will be replaced by son Rajiv Singh, currently serving as vice chairman. The non-agenarian will, however, continue in a non-executive role as chairman emeritus.
  • Singh had left an army job in 1961 to join DLF, a company started by his father-in-law in 1946, and took over as chairman in 1995. Under his leadership, DLF expanded beyond Gurugram, building apartments, shopping malls, and hotels. In 2007, he oversaw DLF's much-anticipated initial public offering, which raised Rs. 9,188 crore through the sale of 175 million shares.

Rajeev Topno Appointed Senior Advisor to World Bank ED

  • Senior bureaucrat Rajeev Topno, private secretary to the Prime Minister, has been appointed as senior advisor to the Executive Director (ED), World Bank.
  • Topno is a 1996 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre.

Brajendra Navnit India's New Ambassador to WTO

  • Brajendra Navnit, a 1999-batch IAS officer, has been appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India (PRI) to the World Trade Organisation for a period of three years.
  • He will be posted at the Permanent Mission of India (PMI) to the WTO in Geneva, which is under the Department of Commerce.
  • Navnit, who completed his tenure as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, belongs to the Tamil Nadu cadre.
  • He replaced J. S. Deepak at the PMI, whose two-year extended term ended on May 31.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which approved Navnit's foreign post, also gave a nod to the appointment of Anwar Hussain Shaik for the post of Counsellor, at the PMI to WTO, Geneva. He is a 2000 batch IRTS officer. His appointment, too, is for three years.

Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee Passes Away

  • Filmmaker-screenwriter Basu Chatterjee, best known for directing films like Choti Si Baat, Rajnigandha, Baaton Baaton Mein, Ek Ruka Hua Faisla and Chameli Ki Shaadi among more, passed away.
  • Basu Chatterjee, along with filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Bhattacharya, were pioneers of middle-of-the-road cinema.
  • Chatterjee worked in Hindi as well as Bengali cinema.

Raveesh Kumar to be India's next Ambassador to Finland

  • Seasoned diplomat and former spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Raveesh Kumar has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to Finland.
  • Kumar, a 1995-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, served as the spokesperson of the MEA from July 2017 to April 2020 during which he deftly articulated India's position on a number of sensitive issues including last year's Balakot strike, reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir and the controversy surrounding the National Register of Citizens.
  • Before becoming the MEA spokesperson, Kumar was serving as Consul General of India in Frankfurt.

Gaitri Kumar Appointed India's next High Commissioner to the UK

  • Seasoned diplomat Gaitri I Kumar has been appointed as India''s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
  • Kumar, a 1986-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, succeeds Ruchi Ghanashyam.
  • At present, Kumar is serving as Indian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union.
  • In her career spanning over 30 years, Kumar served in multiple Indian missions including in Paris, Kathmandu, Lisbon and Geneva.
