Annie Ross, a popular jazz singer in the 1950s before crossing over into a successful film career passes away. She was 89.
Ross rose to fame as the lead vocalist of one of jazz's most well-respected groups, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. The trio became known for the 1952 hit "Twisted," a tune by saxophonist Wardell Gray and written by Ross.
Despite the success, Ross decided to leave the group while feuding with group member Jon Hendricks while she battled heroin addiction.
Around 1975, she declared bankruptcy, lost her home and divorced Lynch, who soon died in a car crash.
While Ross struggled to find work as a singer, she turned her attention to acting. She appeared in plays such as "A View From the Bridge" along with the musical production "The Pirates of Penzance."
Jetha Patel New GCMMF Chairman
Jetha Patel, head of Sabar Dairy was unanimously appointed as the new chairman of Asia's largest milk federation, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which markets its products under the brand name Amul.
Patel was elected to the post after the ouster of former Chairman Vipul Chaudhary.
Banas Dairy's Chairman and former Chairman of GCMMF Parthi Bhatol today proposed the name of Jetha Patel at GCMMF board meeting, which was supported by Anand Dairy's Chairman Ramji Patel and later all the 17 members of the Federation.
Chaudhary, who was ousted in January this year, also supported Jetha Patel's name.

Prof. R. Narayanaswamy New Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee of NFRA
The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) appointed professor R. Narayanaswamy, faculty of the Finance & Accounting area as the Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), the independent accounting and auditing regulator set up by the Government of India under the Companies Act, 2013.
The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) advises the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) on how it can fulfill its mandate to protect the public interest and the interests of investors, creditors and other users of corporate financial statements.
Prakash Chandra Kandpal New as MD & CEO of SBI General Insurance
Non-life insurer SBI General Insurance appointment of Prakash Chandra Kandpal as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
He has been with SBI General Insurance as the Deputy CEO since June 2019.
A seasoned banker, Kandpal, has more than 33 years of experience with SBI.
He has an experience in both retail and international banking, human resource, technology, and learning and development. He also had a stint in SBI Mutual Fund as the chief operating officer.
The insurer's former Managing Director and CEO, Pushan Mahapatra, was appointed as director (strategic investments & digital initiatives). He will continue to be the whole time director of SBI General Insurance.

Ramesh Babu Boddu New MD and CEO of Karur Vysya Bank
Karur Vysya Bank's Board of Directors co-opted Ramesh Babu Boddu as an Additional Director and appointed him as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for three years tenure. He replaced P. R. Seshadri, who resigned in January 2020 citing personal reasons.
The tenure is effective from the date of taking charge.
Prior to this appointment he was serving as a Deputy Managing Director (DMD) in State Bank of India (SBI). He retired from the post in April 2020. He also worked as Chief Operating Officer of the bank.
Earlier to his appointment as DMD he served as Chief General Manager in SBI.
Sumit Deb New CMD of National Mineral Development Corporation
Sumit Deb was appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), iron ore mining major of the country.
Deb, at present Director (Personnel) in the NMDC, will have tenure till February 28, 2023, i.e. the date of his superannuation.
He succeeds N. Baijendra Kumar who superannuates this month-end.

Lalji Tandon Passes Away
Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon, passed away at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow. He was 85.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel had been given the additional charge of Madhya Pradesh after Tandon's illness.
Born on April 12, 1935, Tandon was one of the veteran leaders of the BJP and was a protege of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Tandon served as a member of Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Parishad (Legislative Council) for two terms, 1978–84 and remained the Leader of House, of the Council, 1990–96. He also remained a member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for three terms, 1996–2009, and remained the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, 2003–07. He had also served as Urban Development minister in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet under Mayawati when BSP-BJP alliance was in power and also in CM Kalyan Singh's cabinet.
Tandon also served as Governor of Bihar and was lauded for streamlining academic activities of the state universities. He was appointed as the 22nd Governor of Madhya Pradesh in July 2019.
Ashwini Kumar Tewari New MD & CEO of SBI Cards and Payment Services
SBI (State Bank of India) cards and payment services appointed, Mr. Ashwin Kumar Tewari as its new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive officer (CEO) who is intended to be in charge from August 1, 2020.
Tewari replaces Mr. Hardayal Prasad, the MD and CEO who will quit the directorship of the company on July 31, 2020 due to voluntary retirement.
Prasad, had taken over from Mr. Vijay Jasuja who retired in January 2018.

Renowned Mathematician C. S. Seshadri Passes Away
C. S. Seshadri, a towering figure in the field of algebraic geometry and founder of the prestigious Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), passed away. He was 88 years old.
Seshadri had mentored many young people who were interested in the field of mathematics and was the man behind the CMI. His contributions in the field were so immense that a constant in algebra was named after him.
Seshadri, began his career at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, moved to his home town of Chennai in 1984 to the Institute of Mathematical Sciences. In 1989, he launched the School of Mathematics as part of the SPIC Science Foundation, which is now known as CMI.
