Court Rejects Request for Arnab Goswami's Police Custody

  • The Magistrate Court in Alibag, Maharashtra, recorded reasons for rejecting the request for police custody for Republic TV chief Arnab Goswami. The court remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
  • Mr. Goswami was arrested on November 4 from his residence in Mumbai for allegedly abetting the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik, directors of Concorde Designs Private Limited, for not paying ₹83 lakhs towards the Bombay Dyeing Studio Project.

Actor Faraaz Khan Passes Away

  • Actor Faraaz Khan, known for starring in movies such as "Fareb" and "Mehndi" in the 1990s, passed away in Bengaluru. He was 46.
  • The news of his demise was shared by actor-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt on social media.
  • Khan had marked his debut in Bollywood in 1996 with Vikram Bhatt-directed Fareb.

Annu Tandon Joins SP

  • Former Unnao MP Annu Tandon joined Samajwadi Party within days of quitting the Congress, expressing dissatisfaction with the functioning of its Uttar Pradesh unit.
  • Tandon joined the Samajwadi Party along with Ankit Parihar, a secretary of the state's Congress unit along with 150 party workers in a small function at the SP headquarters in presence of Akhilesh Yadav.
  • The SP chief hinted at the BSP veering off its core ideology as the reason for Mayawati's alleged move to have an association with the BJP.
  • The SP chief also alleged that actions against his party leaders Azam Khan and Munnawar Rana were taken on directions of the government.

Assam's New Chief Secretary

  • Jishnu Baruah was appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the Assam government.
  • Mr. Baruah was serving as the additional chief secretary for Home and Political, Revenue and Disaster Management and Assam Accord Implementation departments.
  • The 1998 batch IAS officer and succeeded Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who retired on October 31.

Aditya Puri to Join PE Major Carlyle

  • Aditya Puri will be guiding global Carlyle on investment opportunities across Asia as a senior advisor.
  • The announcement comes within a week of Puri's retirement from HDFC Bank as the Chief Executive and Managing Director.
  • Puri will advise the Carlyle team on investment opportunities across Asia and provide guidance on the evolving market landscape and new investment opportunities.
  • He will also be advising Carlyle's investment professionals and portfolio management teams on building differentiated high-quality businesses.

TN Agriculture Minister Doraikkannu Passes Away

  • Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R. Doraikkannu passed away.
  • Doraikkannu is a three-time AIADMK MLA.
  • He is the third sitting elected representative from the state to have died after contracting coronavirus, the others being DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan and Congress Lok Sabha MP from Kanniyakumari H. Vasanthakumar.
  • Doraikkannu has represented Papanasam in Thanjavur district in the state assembly since 2006 and was inducted in the cabinet in 2016 by late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
  • Doraikannu was known for his "simplicity, humbleness, straightforwardness, governance skills and commitment towards the welfare of the farming community.

Sean Connery, the First James Bond, Passes Away

  • Scottish movie legend Sean Connery, who shot to international stardom as the suave, sexy and sophisticated British agent James Bond and went on to grace the silver screen for four decades, passed away at the age of 90.
  • Connery was raised in near poverty in the slums of Edinburgh and worked as a coffin polisher, milkman and lifeguard before his bodybuilding hobby helped launch an acting career that made him one of the world's biggest stars.
  • He first played the role of James Bond in 1962's "Dr No", followed by "From Russia with Love" (1963), "Goldfinger" (1964), "Thunderball" (1965), "You Only Live Twice" (1967), "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971) and "Never Say Never Again" (1983). Connery won an Oscar for supporting actor for his turn as a tough Irish cop in Brian De Palma's 1987 "The Untouchables".
