DFI, Indian Army Sign MoU to Accelerate Drone Technology
The Drone Federation of India (DFI) and the Army Design Bureau (ADB) signed a memorandum of understanding to accelerate drone technology development and indigenisation in the drone ecosystem in the country at a time when the world is witnessing a swift transition from traditional warfare to a technology-driven one.
The need of the hour for the Indian defence machinery is to customise such UAVs to adapt to the high-altitude requirement of our forces.
This collaboration will help accelerate this process. We are also planning a visit of industry insiders at the forward areas to expose them to actual operating scenarios of soldiers.
The DFI and ADB have established a holistic collaboration on roadmap planning, research, testing, manufacturing and adoption of drone, counter drone and associated technologies that are to be utilised by the Indian Army in its operations.
12th Edition of Defence Expo to be Held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat
The Ministry of Defence announced that the 12th edition of the Defence Expo, India's flagship exhibition on Land, Naval and Homeland Security systems, will be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The event will be held between October 18 and 22, 2022. The theme for this edition is 'Path to Pride' invoking nationalistic pride and encouraging citizens to partake in nation-building through establishing a capable indigenous Defence industry.
The five-day event will witness three business days followed by two public days. Live demonstrations showcasing the equipment and skill set of the Armed Forces, DPSUs and Industry will be held on all five days at Sabarmati River Front through active participation and synchronized efforts at all levels.

India Begins Cooperation with Bahrain-based Combined Maritime Forces
India formally commenced cooperation with the Bahrain-based multilateral partnership, Combined Maritime Forces (CMF). However, the modalities of the exact nature of cooperation are being worked out.
At the India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in April 2021, India had announced that it would join the CMF as an Associate Partner, which Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had then said will strengthen cooperation in regional security in the Western Indian Ocean. Joining the CMF is the latest in a series of multilateral engagements by the Indian Navy as part of India's widening military diplomacy.
CMF is a multi-national naval partnership to promote security, stability and prosperity across approximately 3.2 million square miles of international waters, which encompass some of the world's most important shipping lanes.
The 34 nation grouping is commanded by a U.S. Navy Vice Admiral, who also serves as Commander U.S. Naval Forces CENTCOM and U.S. Fifth Fleet. All three commands are co-located at U.S. Naval Support Activity Bahrain. In the immediate neighbourhood, Pakistan is a full member of CMF.

Army Carries Out Drill to Test Resilience of Satellites
The Indian Army conducted a pan-India exercise to test and validate its entire satellite-based communication network to ensure operational readiness in case of a conflict in the future.
The exercise was called 'Skylight'.
The assets that were put to test included the static satellite communication systems, the vehicle laden transportable ones and also the man portable systems for their voice and data capability.
The objective of the exercise was to ensure operational readiness of hi-tech satellite systems and personnel manning these. In this exercise, 100 per cent of all satellite communication assets in the Indian Army were activated and various technical and operational scenarios in the space domain were played up. Various agencies responsible for space and ground segments, as also ISRO participated in the exercise.
India Bids to Sell Tejas Aircrafts to Malaysia, says 6 other Nations Interested
India offered to sell 18 light-combat aircraft (LCA) "Tejas" the single-engine jet to Malaysia.
The Indian government in 2021 gave a $6 billion contract to state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HIAE.NS) for 83 of the locally produced Tejas jets for delivery starting around 2023 - four decades after it was first approved in 1983.
Other countries which have evinced interest in the LCA aircraft are: Argentina, Australia, Egypt, USA, Indonesia, and Philippines.
Indian Navy Inks Pact with ISRO's Space Applications Centre on Data Sharing
The Indian Navy inked a pact with ISRO's Space Applications Centre (SAC) in Ahmedabad on data sharing and cooperation on satellite-based naval applications.
Navy officials said both the organisations will have a common platform of mutual cooperation, wherein the scientific advancements by the SAC would be synergised into the Indian Navy's efforts to protect the country's maritime interests.
The broad area of cooperation includes sharing of observational data, exploitation of SAC's weather products and processing of satellite data towards the development of new tools as well as calibration and validation of ocean models.

A first, Navy's All-woman Crew Conducts Reconnaissance and Surveillance Operation
Five women officers of the Indian Navy created history by completing the first all-woman independent maritime reconnaissance and surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea onboard a Dornier 228 aircraft.
The mission, launched from the Naval Air Enclave at Porbandar in Gujarat. The aircraft was captained by the mission commander, Lt Cdr Aanchal Sharma. She had pilots Lt Shivangi and Lt Apurva Gite and Tactical and Sensor Officers Lt Pooja Panda and SLt Pooja Shekhawat in her team. The Naval Air Squadron based at Porbandar operates the state-of-the-art Dornier 228 maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
The women officers received months of ground training and comprehensive mission briefings in the run-up to this historic sortie.

DRDO, Indian Army Successfully Test-fire Indigenously Developed Laser-guided ATGMs
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Army successfully test-fired the indigenously developed Laser-Guided Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) from the Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun at KK Ranges with the support of Armoured Corps Centre & School (ACC&S) Ahmednagar in Maharashtra.
As per the Ministry of Defence, the missiles hit with precision and successfully destroyed the targets at two different ranges. Telemetry systems have recorded the satisfactory flight performance of the missiles.
The ATGM has been developed with multi-platform launch capability and is currently undergoing technical evaluation trials from the 120 mm rifled gun of MBT Arjun.
