MP Govt. to Form New Committee for Implementation of Uniform Civil Code
The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh announced that a committee will be formed for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state.
Some other BJP-ruled states including Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have made similar announcements.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at a function, where he asked why there were two personal laws in one country, and also alleged that some men marry women from tribal communities with the motive of usurping their land.

Gujarat Assembly Polls Phase-1 End: 59.2% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 5 pm
An average 59.24 per cent voter turn-out was recorded as of 5 pm across 89 Assembly seats in the first phase of Gujarat elections. While voting began at 8 in the morning and ended at 5 pm, the final turn-out would be higher as the process continued at the polling stations where voters had arrived before 5 pm and were standing in queues.
The fate of 788 candidates will be decided in the first phase. Barring a few incidents, polling was largely peaceful across all 89 seats in south Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch regions which went to polls in the first phase.

Meghalaya Cabinet Approves Mental Health and Social Care Policy
The Meghalaya cabinet approved a policy aimed at addressing the issues of mental health and social care through collaborative engagement with communities, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said. Meghalaya is the first north-eastern the third state in the country to have a comprehensive policy on mental health and social care, paying attention to these issues, especially among children, adolescents and youth.
Kerala and Karnataka are the other two states in the country to have such policies.
In 2014, the Centre launched the first-ever National Mental Health Policy in an attempt to provide universal psychiatry care.
India Achieves National Health Policy Target for MMR
India achieved a significant milestone by achieving the National Health Policy (NHP) target for Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR).
The Maternal Mortality Ratio declined from 130 per lakh live births in 2014-16 to 97 per lakh live births in 2018-20, according to a special bulletin released by the office of the Registrar General of India. Assam has the highest Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of 195 while Kerala has the lowest of 19 per lakh live births, as per the data.
The MMR of India has improved further by 6 points and now stands at 97/ lakh live births. The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is defined as the number of maternal deaths during a given time period per 100,000 live births.
Upon achieving this, India has accomplished the National Health Policy (NHP) target for MMR of less than 100/lakh live births and is on the right track to achieve the SDG target of MMR less than 70/ lakh live births by 2030, the Ministry of Health stated.
Nagaland Celebrates 60th Statehood Day
Nagaland celebrated its 60th statehood day with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio's call to take forward the path of development and peace and work towards bringing a solution to the Naga political issue.
The northeastern state of Nagaland bordering Myanmar became a separate state in 1963.
In the last six decades, Nagaland has seen giant strides being taken for the creation of educational and technical institutions for the development of human resources.
Starting from 593 schools and two colleges in the early years of statehood, Nagaland now has 2,718 schools, and 69 colleges.

India, Azerbaijan Hold 5th Round of Foreign Office Consultations
India and Azerbaijan held the fifth round of Foreign Office Consultations and reviewed bilateral relations comprehensively including, political, trade, and economic matters.
The fifth round of India-Azerbaijan Foreign Office Consultations was held in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West).
Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, led Azerbaijan's delegation. The 4th Foreign Office Consultations were held in Baku on 28 July 2016.
Views were also exchanged on regional issues and cooperation in the UN and other multilateral bodies.
This year India and Azerbaijan mark the 30th anniversary of establishment of their diplomatic relations. India was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991.

India's First Buddhist International Varsity in Tripura
Shakya Gasan, chief monk of the World Buddhist Pope Association of South Korea, laid the foundation stone for the International Buddhist University at Manu Bankul in Sabroom of South Tripura district.
The Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University (DDIBU) would become the first Buddhist-run university in India to offer Buddhist education along with courses in other disciplines of modern education as well.
The Dalai Lama has sent best wishes for the international Buddhist university.
Apart from Shakya Gasan Bhikkhu from South Korea, who joined as chief guest, Bhikkshuni Mani, who is an eminent Buddhist nun from South Korea was also present. There were guests from Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and from Canada.
Gujarat elections 2022: Veteran BJP leader Jay Narayan Vyas Joins Congress
Days before the first phase of the Assembly elections in Gujarat, the Congress got a shot in the arm in the state with veteran politician Jay Narayan Vyas joining the party at a function in Ahmedabad in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and other senior leaders.
Vyas, reputed to be the face of BJP in Gujarat owing to his frequent appearances in television debates to represent the party, severed his over three-decade-old association when he resigned from the party on November 5.
Vinay Mohan Kwatra Gets 14-month Extension as Foreign Secretary: Report
Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra was granted a 14-month extension in the post beyond his date of superannuation on December 31, 2022, a Personnel Ministry order said.
Kwatra had assumed office as Foreign Secretary on May 1, 2022, succeeding Harsh Vardhan Shringla to the post.
The extension of his tenure came at a time when India is assuming the presidency of the G-20. India is set to host the G-20 Summit next year.
Earlier, Kwatra served as India's envoy to Nepal.
Kwatra is known to have extensive expertise in dealing with India's neighbourhood as well as the US, China and Europe.
