India to Launch Mangalyaan-2

  • Nine years after its wildly successful Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), aka Mangalyaan, India is preparing to send another spacecraft to the red planet.
  • The Mars Orbiter Mission-2 or MOM-2 would reportedly carry four payloads. As per reports, these payloads would contain scientific instruments that will study aspects of the barren planet, including interplanetary dust, the Martian atmosphere and the environment.
  • According to the mission document, payloads will include: a Mars Orbit Dust Experiment (MODEX), a Radio Occultation (RO) experiment, an Energetic Ion Spectrometer (EIS) and a Langmuir Probe and Electric Field Experiment (LPEX).

ISS to Retire in 2031, NASA Initiates Plan to Bring it Back to Earth

  • The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) unveiled how it is planning to retire International Space Station (ISS), which is a unique space station currently in lower Earth orbit. The space station facilitates collaborative projects involving five participating space agencies: NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA and CSA.
  • The ISS is often visible to the naked eye from Earth's surface as it is the largest artificial object in space and the largest satellite in low Earth orbit.
  • NASA disclosed the $1 billion plan to carry out the re-entry of ISS back to Earth as it said that it aims to develop a new orbital vehicle that will be vital in the process.
  • The International Space Station (ISS) was launched in 1998.

Mission to Venus Already Configured: ISRO Chairman

  • Nearly a month after the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) landed Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon and successfully roved over 100 meters around, it has now set sight on a new target - Venus.
  • Confirming the development, ISRO chief S. Somnath said that India's mission to Venus, the brightest planet in our solar system, has been configured.
  • The payloads for the mission have already been developed, marking a significant milestone in India's space exploration endeavours.
  • The mission, unofficially known as Shukrayaan, from Sanskrit words Shukra (Venus) and yana (craft, vehicle), is expected to launch in the coming years.
  • The primary focus of the mission is to study the surface and atmosphere of Venus, which is thick and filled with acids.

Google & HP Join Hands to Make Chromebooks in India

  • In a significant development aligned with the Make in India initiative, tech giants HP and Google teamed up to manufacture budget-friendly Chromebook laptops in India. This strategic partnership aims to target the affordable notebook market, particularly catering to students, educational institutions, and government procurement needs.
  • The Chromebook devices are expected to be priced at approximately Rs. 20,000, with potential for even lower rates in bulk purchases. Production will take place at the Flex facility near Chennai, where HP has been manufacturing laptops and desktops since August 2020.
  • Google sees this collaboration as an opportunity to further integrate itself into the Indian education system with budget-friendly notebooks.

NASA'S James Webb Telescope Detects First Evidence of Carbon on Jupiter's Moon

  • In a groundbreaking discovery, NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) detected the presence of carbon dioxide on Europa, one of Jupiter's icy moons. Astronomers used the data from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and identified carbon dioxide in a specific region on the icy surface of Europa, as per a NASA release.
  • Notably, this discovery has important implications for the potential habitability of Europa's ocean.
  • Scientists were aware that a salty ocean of liquid water with a rocky seafloor lay beneath the icy shell of Europa. However, they had not confirmed if that ocean contained the chemicals needed for life, particularly carbon.

Infosys Ties with Microsoft for Industry-wide Adoption of Generative AI

  • Infosys, country's second largest IT player, announced its collaboration with Microsoft to jointly develop solutions that leverage Infosys Topaz, Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Cognitive Services.
  • Both organizations are bringing together their respective artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to enhance enterprise functions with AI-enabled solutions across multiple industries.
  • Through the partnership, Infosys Topaz is using Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Cognitive Services to augment its capabilities, to help enterprise customers transition from digital to AI solutions.
