Arunachal Receives 'Best Emerging Green Tourist Destination' Award

  •  The Arunachal Pradesh's Tourism department received the award for the best emerging green tourist destination of the country.
  • The winner was decided through an online poll conducted by the Travel & Leisure magazine. The award was given to the department and the stakeholders in recognition of their effort towards promoting tourism in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Model-turned actress Dia Mirza presented the award to the department at a function held in New Delhi.

IRCTC, Karnataka Sign Agreement to Revive Golden Chariot Luxury Train

  • The IRCTC on November 19, 2019 signed an agreement with the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) to refurbish the state's Golden Chariot train and restart its operations from March 2020.
  • The 18-coach-long luxury train has 44 guest rooms that can accommodate 84 guests. It covers tourist attractions in Karnataka and Goa.
  • The train's operations were stopped in March 2018 due to low occupancy rate.
  • The agreement between the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and the KSTDC was signed at a ceremony in the presence of Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi, Minister of Tourism of Karnataka C T Ravi and Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav.

Airbus Wins $30bn of Orders For 170 Aircraft

  •  Airbus has won $30bn (£23bn) worth of orders for 170 aircraft in another sign of the continued expansion of Middle East airlines.
  • At Dubai Air Show, Emirates announced the purchase of 50 Airbus A350-900 XWBs - extra wide body - planes at a list price of $16bn.
  • That was closely followed by fast-growing low-cost carrier Air Arabia ordering 170 Airbus A320s worth $14bn.
  • The European aircraft manufacturer makes its wings in the UK.
  • Both airlines are likely to get a discount on the catalogue price, given the size of the orders.
  • Air Arabia chief executive Adel Ali said that the aircraft order was a "game-changer" for the airline. He said it would allow Air Arabia to expand in southeast Asia and Africa.

Railways' 1st 'Private' Train Tejas Posts Rs 70 Lakh Profit In First Month

  • IRCTC's Tejas Express has made a profit of around Rs 70 lakh till October 2019 while earning a revenue of nearly Rs 3.70 crore through sale of tickets, signalling a steady start for the Railways' first "privately" run train.
  • The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation's Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express is part of the Railways' bid to develop 50 railway stations of world-class standards and allowing private passenger train operators to run 150 trains trains on its network.
  • The train has run with an average occupancy of 80-85 per cent since it began operations on October 5, 2019.

  • Lemon Tree Hotels acquired Berggruen Hotels in November 2019 taking its total inventory to 7,800 rooms in 77 hotels across 45 destinations, making it India's largest hotel chain in the mid-priced hotel sector.
  • Keys Hotels are present in 16 cities including Aurangabad, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Goa, Gurugram, Kochi, Kolhapur, Ludhiana, Mahabaleshwar, Manali, Mumbai, Pune, Port Blair, Trivandrum and Vishakapatnam. Of these, Lemon Tree already has a presence in 7 destinations and these Keys Hotels add to the depth of coverage in those cities.

Indian Railways launches 3 online applications for all-India rollout to strengthen IT enablement

  •  Indian Railways has launched three applications for all-India roll out to strengthen its IT-enabled services which will help ensure proper monitoring of projects being undertaken by Railways.
  • The applications, namely CRS Sanction Management System, Rail-road crossing GAD approval system and TMS for construction aim at beefing up IT-enabled services.
  • The CRS Sanction Management System is an important aspect in construction, maintenance and up-gradation of railway assets, whereas Rail-road crossing GAD approval system will expedite preparation, processing and approval of general agreement drawings related to the construction of Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges.
  • Application TMS for construction has been developed for new assets being constructed by the construction organization.
