Samsung Opens New Innovation Lab at Delhi Technological University
Samsung India has inaugurated a Samsung Innovation Lab at Delhi Technological University (DTU) under the Samsung Innovation Campus initiative.
At the lab, students and faculty at DTU will work on advanced technology training as well as joint research collaborations on domains such as Application Framework, Multimedia, Health and Security.
With this addition, Samsung now has eight technical labs spread across the country as part of its Samsung Innovation Campus initiative, which was earlier called Samsung Digital Academy.
As part of the lab, engineers at Samsung R&D Institute, Noida (SRI-N) will work on collaborative research projects with DTU students and faculty on smartphone domains based on technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Computer Vision. So far, over 200 students have worked with SRI-N engineers on research projects and have received training.

IGNOU Launches MA in Folklore and Culture Studies through ODL Mode
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched a post graduate (MA) programme in folklore and culture studies. The course is being offered by School of Inter-Disciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies at IGNOU through open distance learning (ODL) mode.
According to IGNOU, the programme aims to find out the relation between folk culture and context through various frameworks borrowed from disciplines such as literature, history, sociology, anthropology, folklore studies and emerging disciplines such as culture studies.
The course will focus on time, geography, space and literature of the folklore and culture of the world in general, and of the country in particular. The programme coordinator is professor Nandini Sahu.

DBS Bank India Joins Hands with TRRAIN
In line with its commitment towards creating and preserving livelihoods, DBS Bank India announced its partnership with TRRAIN (Trust for Retailers & Retail Associates of India), a non-profit engaged in training and placement of youth in e-commerce & retail sectors.
The partnership will support youth from low-income households by providing them with long-term employment opportunities.
Through the partnership, DBS will facilitate the skills training and employment of individuals affected by the pandemic and persons with disabilities through a one-year-long pan-India programme, a combination of classroom and online training sessions. The training will be conducted at TRRAIN centres across major cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi-NCR region, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, among others.

Odisha Schools Start Smart Classes in Remote Areas
Students of a high school in a remote area of Odisha's Koraput district are experiencing an all-new method of teaching as the administration has converted their traditional classroom into smart classes.
The classes now experience high-speed internet, interactive screen, web cameras, digital podium, 3-D animation, graphs, interactive topographical sheets, animated videos, and virtual laboratories for science. Moreover, teachers of Kumuli high school under Borigumma block also learn about the level of students and their learning process.
It's an attempt to bridge the digital divide and to provide students with a better classroom experience. Undoubtedly, the smart classes will enhance the student-teacher interaction and will give students a better understanding of concepts.
On International Women's Day, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the launch of Super-75 scholarship scheme to support the education of meritorious girls from poor families, so that they can excel in streams like medicine, engineering, ITI (Industrial training institutes) and humanity and contribute to nation-building.
Strengthening Women Entrepreneurs Ecosystem in J&K, the Lt Governor also announced a new scheme - Tejaswini under Mission Youth, to provide financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to the girls between the age group of 18 to 35 years to start their business.
Mission Youth will provide 10 per cent of the project cost and will also pay the interest every year.
AMU to Set up Centre of Sufism and Islamic Philosophy
The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has proposed to set up a Centre of Sufism and Islamic Philosophy with the aim to provide a platform for inter-religious studies and dialogues at national and international levels, The centre will re-examine the core issues of Islamic Philosophy in its historic-cultural context. It will also revisit the classical Islamic tests to provide a deeper understanding of Islamic thought, culture and civilisation.
According to Prof. Latif Shah Hussain Kazmi, Chairman, Department of Philosophy, AMU is perhaps the only seat of learning that has three disciplines of Philosophy, namely Indian, Islamic and Western Philosophy.
The proposal to set up the Centre of Sufism and Islamic Philosophy has been passed unanimously at the Ordinary Meeting of the Academic Council.
Study in UK with Commonwealth Shared Scholarships
Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in partnership with UK universities. These scholarships are intended for candidates from least developed and lower middle-income Commonwealth countries for full-time Masters study on selected courses.
Funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), these Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.
The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow is offering 6 scholarships under this scheme.

Sundar Pichai Pledges $25 million to Empower Women in India and Globally
In a bid to support the economic empowerment of women in India, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced $25 million in grants to non-profits and social enterprises in India and around the world.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, Pichai also committed to help 1 million women in rural villages in India to become entrepreneurs through business tutorials, tools and mentorship, as part of the Google Internet Saathi programme.
The company also announced $500,000 Google.org grant to Nasscom Foundation to support 100,000 women agriculture workers with digital and financial literacy.
The virtual event also marked the completion of Google's joint effort with Tata Trusts to empower women across rural India with digital literacy skills via the Internet Saathi programme that was launched in 2015.
AIIMS Psychology PhD not Recognised by RCI
Observing that it would be quite ironic if the PhD degree in Clinical Psychology from AIIMS is not recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) when even diploma courses are recognised by it, the Delhi High Court has directed the Centre and the RCI to take a decision within 30 days on a representation regarding recognition of the course as a qualification for rehabilitation professionals.
The court made the observation and passed the order in a petition contending that PhD in Clinical Psychology from AIIMS has not been notified by the RCI under the schedule to Section 11(1) of RCI Act, 1992, the degrees in the schedule are recognised qualifications for rehabilitation professionals.
