IIM-Kozhikode Launches Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Emerging Tech

A Centre for Digital Innovation and Transformation (CDiT), which promotes and coordinates interdisciplinary research in emerging digital technologies, was opened at the IIM Kozhikode.
Co-founder of Infosys Kris Gopalakrishnan was the chief guest for the virtual inaugural function. In his inaugural address, Gopalakrishnan congratulated IIM Kozhikode for this initiative and expressed hope that the industry becomes an active participant in the activities of this centre because it is at the intersection of academic and industry activity.
IIM-Kozhikode has been a pioneer in digital outreach and was the first Business School in Asia to conduct programmes for working executives through satellite delivery systems (later through dedicated internet), called Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) mode, the first of its kind in Asia back in 2001.

NCERT Reviewing Syllabi, Textbooks to Reduce Load on Students

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) launched a review of syllabus and textbooks for schools to reduce the curriculum load on children from the next academic year to ensure that they make a "speedy recovery" in learning, which has been hit by Covid disruptions.
NCERT director in-charge Sridhar Srivastava wrote to the heads of departments of the Council to carry out the review by involving internal and external experts — and propose the changes by December 28.

Delhi Police Launches E-learning Platform "Unnati"

Police Commissioner of Delhi, Rakesh Asthana launched an e-learning platform 'Unnati', under the Delhi Police's flagship scheme 'YUVA' at the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Auditorium, New Delhi. Every year, over 1.5 lakh people are arrested by the Delhi Police for various crimes. More than 85 per cent of them are first-timers and only 10-15 per cent are repeat offenders.
Unnati is an e-learning and certification initiative by the Delhi Police-South West District to help educate youths and impart skill training to school dropouts from the weaker sections of society.
The courses offered under 'Unnati' include digital literacy courses comprising basic computer courses and typing training, preparatory courses for competitive exams and sports courses, among others.

CBSE Discontinues Same Day Physical Evaluation of Class 10, 12 Term-1 OMR Answer Sheets

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decided to stop the physical evaluation of OMR answer sheets at the exam centres on the day of the test itself for the ongoing classes 10 and 12 board examinations with immediate effect.
The board did not cite any reason for the sudden change in norms when the exams are underway.
Until now, the OMR answer sheets were first physically evaluated at the exam centre by school teachers and then sent for a digital evaluation. However, the board has now asked for physical evaluation to be stopped for the remaining exams that will go on till 30 December.

Global Health Security Index 2021

As per the Global Health Security (GHS) Index 2021, the world's average overall GHS Index score was reduced to 38.9 (out of 100) in 2021, from a score of 40.2 in the GHS Index, 2019. GHS Index is developed in partnership with the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
India ranked 66 out of 195 countries with an overall Index score of 42.8 and along with a change of -0.8 from 2019. The United States of America (USA) ranked 1st on the index with a score of 75.9 followed by Australia and Finland.

Tripura Govt .to Hand over Low Enrollment Schools to Coveted Private Organisations

According to Ratan Lal Nath, the Education Minister of Tripura, the Tripura government framed a new policy to invite prestigious institutions of the country to take over schools that have very low enrollment located in the rural areas of the state.
This policy was framed in the month of October and as of now, no private institution meeting the criteria set by the government showed interest in coming to Tripura.
As per Ratan Lal Nath, in Tripura, there are 4,200 schools in total, out of which the Tripura government directly controls, 2,600 schools and 1,630 schools come under the jurisdiction of TTAADC.

Delhi Govt Tells DU Colleges to Not Make Any Appointments till Formation of Governing Bodies

The Delhi government has written to 28 Delhi University colleges partially or fully funded by it to not make any appointments till the formation of governing bodies, in what could lead to a fresh tussle between the colleges and the ruling dispensation.
Out of these 28 colleges under the Delhi University, 12 are fully funded by the Delhi government, with the release of funds by the latter being a bone of contention between the two parties.

Print Question Papers in Only One Language, either English or Hindi

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed school heads and exam centre superintendents to ensure the question paper for classes 10 and 12 are printed only in one language — either English or Hindi.
The board has stated that the question papers need not be printed in both languages for each student. Only one language, that is either English or Hindi, has to be prioritised as per what the students of a particular school or exam centre require.
It has come to the notice that some of the examination centres are printing both English and Hindi versions of question papers and thereafter these are being distributed to the students. This is not as per the directions supplied by the CBSE.
