Truman State University Announces Scholarships for Indian Students

  • The US-based Truman State University is offering the President's Honorary scholarship for Indian students. These scholarships will be awarded for on-campus education for the fall 2022 session. Each meritorious Indian student will be awarded scholarships up to US$ 10,000.

TCS, University of Kashmir Collaborate to Offer Education, Skilling and Entrepreneurship Programme

  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) partnered up with the University of Kashmir to launch a programme with the aim to improve employability skills of students in Kashmir, under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
  • TCS aims to carry out its Youth Employment Program (YEP), BridgeIT, goIT, Ignite My Future (IMF) and Adult Literacy Program (ALP) within the next three years.
  • College students from Kashmir will be trained to prosper in the digital economy through the YEP programme, which have proved successful in the past too. The training programme will cover English communication, corporate etiquette, analytical thinking, and problem-solving, basic computer and technical skills, and self-confidence.
  • The University of Kashmir will, meanwhile, play the role of a facilitator and help create linkages for TCS to drive its goIT and IMF initiatives, under which school students will be motivated to pursue technology using resources such as design thinking, mobile app development, and mentorship from TCS employees.

Skill Development to be Made Compulsory Subject for Classes 9 to 12 in Haryana

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that skill development will be made a compulsory subject for students of classes 9 to 12 so that the youth of the state can become self-reliant in all aspects.
  • The Chief Minister said that skill universities are the need of the hour and the state government has set up Haryana's first such university in Palwal.
  • In this policy, along with education and employment, the main goal is to make the students cultured and self-reliant so that they make significant contributions in making India a global leader again.

Indian Schools Invited to Compete for New World's Best School Prizes

  • High-achieving schools in India were invited to enter the USD 2,50,000 inaugural World's Best School Prizes, launched by London-headquartered T4 Education in partnership with professional services major Accenture.
  • The new prize, launched this month, was conceptualised to celebrate schools worldwide for the important role they play and for their enormous contribution to society's progress, especially in the wake of the COVID pandemic.
  • It is aimed at creating a new platform to tell the stories of schools that are transforming the lives of their students and making a real difference to their communities.
  • A Top 10 shortlist for each prize category will be announced later this year, followed by a shortlist of three finalists for each prize. After a public advisory vote, the winner of each category will be chosen by the Judging Academy comprising distinguished leaders from around the world.

High Commission of India in Dhaka Launches Suborno Jayanti Scholarship Website

  • The High Commission of India in Dhaka formally launched the Suborno Jayanti Scholarship website. In order to share openings for education and professionalism in India for Bangladeshi citizens, 1000 Suborno Jayanti Scholarships (SJS) for students including 500 seats by ICCR and 500 for officials under ITEC were announced during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh on 26-27 March 2021.
  • These scholarships aim to attract the best and brightest talents and provide opportunities to promote synergies between India and Bangladesh under India's New Education Policy.
  • Last year, 267 ICCR scholarships were availed by Bangladeshi students in various fields of Engineering, Science, Arts, Law, Culture, at UG, PG and PhD levels, in premier govt educational institutes of India, like IIT, NIT, NALSAR, Rabindra Bharati University etc. 285 Bangladeshi professionals enrolled for e-ITEC courses in Financial Year 2021-22, since no physical courses were held due to the pandemic.

IIM-Raipur, NSE Academy to Offer Joint Certificate Programmes in Finance

  • The NSE Academy Limited (NAL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has signed MoU with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Raipur to collaborate in the area of the joint certification programs in finance and related financial technologies.
  • Under this new collaboration, both the universities will introduce and offer several long term and short term programmes for working professionals and organisations who aim to build leadership capabilities. These programmes will mainly be in the area of finance and financial technologies.

India to Set up its First IIT Outside the Country in UAE

  • The Indian Institute of Technology will establish its first branch outside India in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of the India-UAE trade deal signed. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the UAE and India will usher in a new phase of joint strategic cooperation in all sectors. The two nations will also set up an India-UAE cultural council to facilitate and promote cultural projects, cross-cultural exchanges and exhibitions.
  • The two countries realising the need to establish world-class institutions that encourage and support innovation and technological progress, the leaders agreed to establish an Indian Institute of Technology in the United Arab Emirates.
  • The agreement was signed after a virtual summit held with an agenda to boost trade and investments between both countries and usher in a new era of economic progress. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have participated in the summit.

IGNOU PG Diploma in Sindhi-Hindi-Sindhi Translation Launched

  • IGNOU launched a new post-graduate diploma programme in Sindhi-Hindi-Sindhi Translation. The School of Translation Studies and Training (SOTST) started a Postgraduate Diploma in Sindhi-Hindi-Sindhi Translation (PGDSHST). The announcement of this programme was made on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.
  • The PG Diploma in Sindhi-Hindi-Sindhi Translation programme was launched by Professor Nageswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU.

University of Essex Launches Scholarships worth £5,000 for Indian Students

  • University of Essex, United Kingdom (UK) launched a scholarship for Indian students looking to pursue a master's degree in the UK. The university will now offer various scholarships to Indian students under the Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship programme.
  • The scholarship is available for the University of Essex's September 2022 and January 2023 intakes, and will offer support worth up to £5,000 for Indian students.
  • For these scholarships, eligible courses are those which are full-time taught masters courses leading to MA, MSc, LLM and MRes degrees. These will be awarded to students who have completed relevant school or university studies in one of the specified countries, and in the case of the UK, who are domiciled in one of the other specified countries.
