KCR Launches 9 New Govt. Medical Colleges in Telangana, Aims for One in Each District
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao inaugurated nine new government medical colleges across the state. Addressing the event via video conference, Rao said that the number of government medical colleges in Telangana has gone up to 26 from 5 in 2014 when the state was carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
Kumrambhim Asifabad, Kamareddy, Khammam, Vikarabad, Jangaon, Rajanna Sirsilla, Nirmal, Jaishankar Bhopalpalli, and Karimnagar Medical Colleges were inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
Government Launches Skill India Digital
Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan launched Skill India Digital (SID), a digital platform aimed at synergising and transforming the skills, education, employment, and entrepreneurship landscape of India.
SID is the digital public infrastructure (DPI) for skilling, education, employment and entrepreneurship ecosystem of India. The platform is driven by the vision to make skill development more innovative, accessible and personalised in its embodiment, focusing on digital technology and industry 4.0 skills. It aims to be a breakthrough in accelerating skilled talent hiring, and facilitating lifelong learning and career advancement.

IIT Kanpur, ICICI Join to Fuel Start-up Innovation in India
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICICI Bank to provide start-ups with a comprehensive support system.
This collaboration aims to enable collaborative initiatives between IIT Kanpur and ICICI Bank. The aim is to empower start-ups and innovators at the Start-up Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) IIT Kanpur with essential tools and knowledge.
AI Courses to be Introduced Soon in Government Schools in Punjab
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his Delhi counterpart and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the state's first 'School of Eminence' in Amritsar before addressing the Sikhiya Kranti Rally.'
At the rally Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that courses in artificial intelligence will soon be introduced in government schools across the state.
One lakh students will be imparted training in artificial intelligence while training will also be given to 10,000 teachers for teaching the courses.

Rajasthan CM Inaugurates Park for Coaching Institute Students
Rajasthan's Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot unveiled a sprawling 30-hectare park built at a cost of Rs. 120 crore to provide a serene and stress-free environment for coaching institute students.
Named the "OxyZone City Park Garden of Joy," this park has been designed to offer a respite from the rigorous academic schedules that students often face. The park's construction began in February 2020 under the Urban Improvement Trust.
This initiative is part of the government's commitment to creating a place for coaching students to unwind, rejuvenate, and connect with nature.
Bloomberg Annual Ranking of B-Schools 2023-24
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore was ranked at the fourth position in the latest Asia-Pacific Bloomberg Businessweek Best B-Schools Ranking 2023-24 released in September 2023. While the Indian School of Business, or ISB bagged the fifth place, SP Jain got the seventh place.
The first, second and third ranks were bagged by Hong Kong HKUST, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and CEIBS, respectively.
Parameter-wise, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore obtained the fourth rank in compensation, third in learning and networking, while second in entrepreneurship in the Best B-Schools 2023-24 rankings among the institutions in Asia Pacific region.
The ISB's postgraduate programme in management (PGP) was ranked fifth in Bloomberg's annual ranking of B-Schools. ISB was ranked second in networking, third in entrepreneurship, fourth in learning and fifth in compensation parameters.
SP Jain was ranked in the seventh position in all the parameters – entrepreneurship, networking, learning and compensation.

Nipah Outbreak in Kerala: 700 People on Contact List
Amid rising concerns over the return of the Nipah virus in Kerala, the state government has strengthened measures to prevent the spread of the infection a day after two deaths from the same were confirmed Kozhikode district. The government formed 19 committees to monitor the outbreak. Meanwhile, the total number of active cases of the infection has gone up to three.
Health Minister Veena George said that so far, three samples tested Nipah positive and tracing contact has started. Of 706 contacts, 77 are in the high-risk category, 153 health workers are in the low-risk category.
IELTS One Skill Retake Now Available for Indian Test Takers
Indians harbouring dreams of going abroad to study will now be able to take a retest in one skill in English language test IELTS if they think their performance was not up to the mark the first time around.
Available at all eligible IELTS Computer Delivered test centres in India, 'IELTS One Skill Retake' enables test takers to retake any one of the four skills – Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking – if they did not achieve their desired score in that skill they aimed for the first time around. This feature is currently available for test takers who have opted for the Computer Delivered IELTS test.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) One Skill Retake is currently accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency, and an increasing number of universities and institutions each month.

West Bengal Unveils New State Education Policy
The government of West Bengal announced a new state Education Policy (SEP), a move that has been celebrated as a "bold step towards inclusive education" by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The SEP encapsulates the existing framework for school education and incorporates several noteworthy features.
In a notification issued by the West Bengal education department on September 9, it was detailed that the state's 5+4+2+2 school structure would continue.
This structure translates into a year of pre-primary followed by four years of primary education until Class 4, then two years of secondary and two years of higher secondary education.
Some of the key features of the West Bengal state education policy are:
Three-language policy: A three-language policy to be introduced for Classes 5 to 8 to strengthen the federal spirit of the Constitution.
Focus on mother tongue: Mother Tongue to be made the medium of instruction in school. Eg: Nepali, Santhali, Rajbanshi and Bengali.
5+4+2+2 pattern: School education to follow a 5+4+2+2 pattern to preserve the importance of board exams.
Holistic development: Challenging coursework, extracurricular activities and career counselling to be emphasised.

Coding and AI to be Introduced in UP Schools from 2024
In a pivotal shift towards technology-oriented education, the Uttar Pradesh education department announced plans to teach the basics of coding, computational thinking and artificial intelligence (AI) to students in state-run schools starting from the academic session of 2024-25.
Previously deemed a skill set for the tech-savvy, coding and computational capabilities have now taken centre stage as fundamental cognitive tools instrumental in the holistic development of learners.
The inclusion of coding lessons in the curriculum aligns with the mandate set by NEP-2020, demonstrating the significant role technology plays in modern education.
Developed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the course will be integrated as part of the existing science curriculum.
