Garima Agrawal Awarded NASI-Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee Award
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi faculty Garima Agrawal was awarded the NASI-Platinum Jubilee Young Scientist Award 2022 by The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).
Agarwal was awarded for the 'Chemical Sciences' category in recognition of notable contributions made by her. This award carries a medal and a citation with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.
Candidates for the NASI-Platinum Jubilee Young Scientist Award must be under 35 years old, have a strong scientific background, and have produced important work in India. The award was instituted to recognise promise, creativity, and excellence in young scientists.

Golden Globe Awards: RRR Wins Best Original Song
RRR came, saw and conquered at the Golden Globes. S.S. Rajamouli's blockbuster won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, one of the two categories it was nominated in. It missed out in the Best Non-English Language Film which was won by 'Argentina, 1985' from Argentina. Other nominees in the category included 'All Quiet on the Western Front' (Germany), 'Close' (Belgium), 'Decision to Leave', (South Korea).
RRR, which made over Rs. 1,200 crore globally, has already won a slew of international honours including Best Director for Rajamouli at the New York Film Critics Circle awards. RRR has submitted itself for consideration in various Oscar categories as well and is expected to be nominated in at least one category if not more.
Digital India Awards 2022: e-NAM Wins Platinum Award in Digital Empowerment of Citizen Category
The flagship initiative of the agriculture ministry called National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) won the Platinum Award in the Digital Empowerment of Citizens Category in Digital India Awards 2022.
Digital India Awards (DIA) was instituted by MeitY, under the aegis of National Portal of India to encourage and honour innovative digital solutions.
The awards were given under seven different categories — Digital Empowerment of Citizens, Public Digital Platforms, Digital Initiatives in Collaboration with Start-ups, Digital Initiative for ease of doing business, Data sharing and use for socioeconomic development, Digital Initiatives at the Grassroots level, Best Web and Mobile initiatives. Platinum, Gold and Silver awards were given to the winning teams under different categories.
President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Digital India Awards, 2022 to N. Vijaya Lakshmi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, in the presence of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Railways and Communications.

S. S. Rajamouli Wins Best Director for RRR at New York Film Critics Circle
S. S. Rajamouli made history by winning several awards in the West for his pet project, RRR, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan. The filmmaker won the Best Director award at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) in the US. When his name was announced, a section of the attendees gave him a standing ovation and encouraged him. The filmmaker accepted the award and said that the West reacted to RRR the same way Indians did.
S. S. Rajamouli's RRR is a fictional story based on the lives of Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem, played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR, respectively. The film's story is written by Vijayendra Prasad. For the uninitiated, RRR was submitted in 14 categories at the Oscars 2023 and won two nominations at the Golden Globes 2023.

The Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession (HLS CLP) announced Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud as the 2022 recipient of its "Award for Global Leadership" in recognition of his lifetime service to the legal profession in India and across the world. The award will be presented to him in a virtual event on January 11, 2023.
The "Award for Global Leadership" is the Centre's highest professional honour.
The Centre brings together leading academics, legal practitioners, and thought leaders to honour and recognise individuals whose achievements have been impactful to the legal profession.
Jalna and Nagpur Police Win 'Best Police Units' Award
Jalna district police and Nagpur city police in Maharashtra bagged the 'Best Police Unit' awards for 2021 in the state under different classes for maintaining law and order, use of modern technology, evolving community policing and administration.
The Jalna police got the award in 'Class A' and the Nagpur police in 'Class B', as per the winners announced by Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Kulwant Sarangal.
Police units with less than 6,100 Indian Penal Code cases are grouped in 'Class A', while those with more than 6,100 IPC cases are grouped in 'Class B', according to a police circular.
The police units were evaluated on the basis of their performance on 45 pre-selected parameters.

Odisha Wins World Habitat Award 2023 for its Jaga Mission
Odisha won the UN-Habitat's World Habitat Awards 2023 for Jaga Mission, a 5T initiative of the state.
The Jaga Mission is the land titling and slum upgrading program that aims at empowering the lives of slum dwellers.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Government of Odisha has set itself the ambitious target of becoming the first slum-free state in India and is leading the Jaga Mission programme to upgrade all of the state's 2,919 slums.
In 2019, Odisha's Jaga mission had received World Habitat Awards for its success in providing land tenure security to the slum dwellers.

Dr. Tapan Saikia to Receive Assam Highest Civilian Award 'Assam Baibhav'
The Assam government announced that it will confer the highest state civilian award 'Assam Baibhav' on Mumbai-based medical practitioner Dr. Tapan Saikia for his contribution towards cancer treatment. As per Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Saikia is one of the patrons of Deepshikha Foundation and has rendered immense contribution towards generating awareness and early detection of cancer in Assam and north-east.
Sarma also announced the recipients' names for the second highest civilian award 'Assam Saurav' and 'Assam Gaurav'. All the awards will be given at a function around the middle of this year.
Krishna Roy for art and culture, Gilbert Sangma and Nayanmoni Saikia for sports, Dr Binoy Kumar Saikia for science and Dr Sashidhar Phukan for healthcare and public service will receive the 'Assam Saurav' award.
A total of 15 eminent personalities have been selected for conferring the 'Assam Gaurav' award this year.
